Can S30V be DLC coated?

This is my first post and I'm a real knife newbie, so please take it easy on me! As the title states, I'm wondering if S30V steel can be DLC coated. I ask because I'm thinking of buying a Kershaw S30V Blur as my first serious EDC folder, but I prefer a black blade. Kershaw only has black blade Blurs in 440, but I'm thinking maybe later I could get a S30V DLC coated independently - if it's possible. A cursory search of other knives didn't turn up any S30V DLC coated models, so I'm wondering if there's a property of the steel that prevents it.

Since it is stainless, it isnt very useful. An added cost for no real benefit. I dont think it is a property of the steel as far as I know

Lots of companies offer DLC coated S30V blades... and just about every other steel for that matter. The consideration of having a single blade coated independently may not work out too well for you unless you have contacts in the specialty coatings industry. Most of the companies, such as ionbond, have pretty strict minimum order limits. You might consider some of the coatings offered to paintballers and R/C hobbyists, but, those coatings are less durable and often come with materials limitations.

mostly paintball guns are made of annodized aluminum, but sometimes people get aftermarket powder coat jobs.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I wasn't aware of that Kershaw DLC Spec Bump - just watched a video review, may have to get it.

The Kershaw spec bump has a DLC coated S30V blade and G-10. Heck, I can't wait to get mine.

I love the look and feel of the spec bump. I just can't warm up to the thumbstud lock.

Benchmade has the mini Dejavoo, Harley 13940BK and other models.

Blade Tech has the Pro Hunter Extremes.

I'm sure there are more. I found these just searching around on Ebay for a few minutes.

All of Kershaw's factory ZT knives in S30V are DLC coated. Their Kershaw branded knives that have a coating are all DLC coated. Some are S30V, and there are other steels involved also.

There is a big difference in DLC and TiNi coatings. DLC itself has a RC in the high 60's I believe. I have thought on occasion I had scratched my blades, only to find out what I thought was a scratch ended up being the material I was cutting left on the blade. It is very tough stuff.

EDIT: Phillip beat me to it!

The ZT0350 is a good alternative to the Blur. It's all black, S30V, and about the same size, shape, and functionality as the Blur.

According to the Spyderco website, the Digital Camo ParaMilitary and the Digital Camo Military with the black blades are DLC coated.
