I can buy this knife for under $70,i'm sure it's worth it but i'd like to know it's approximate value.
Also is the leather sheath worth something too,or would the appraisal value include the sheath too?
Just wondering cause it's an awesome looking sheath, and I thought I had read that sheaths and cocoons have a dollar value of their own, even without the bali.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...TIA

Oooops.....lets try that image again:
BTW this is the info I already have on it.
It's Pre-BM made by Bali-song,Circa 1985,has a 4" blade and it's annodized.It also came with the embossed leather sheath.

Gorgeous knife. looks to be in really good shape. here in Central NY, a lot of the pre BM balis are pretty abused because of the ban on "gravity and inertia activated edged weapons". However, the state of NY as far as I can tell in the mid to late 80s so that they are legal to own (outside of NYC) but not legal to carry on your person. At least that is what the local cops say. the only legal statutes I can find through the law library are from the 80s so I assume it still stands.

Hey Nate, last time I looked at the laws, you can own them like you said but are you sure about the carry thing? I didn't know that. I know you can't have them in the city. I guess they're too dangerous! They still sell them on Long Island.

Almost forgot...provided that is still in good shape (locks tight) it's a steal. Ok, even if it isn't that tight, it's still a goo deal.

!#$% That's a great steal!!!!!!!!!! Any pre BM Bali-Song (that is not an International Series) would be a steal at under $150 (unless it was complete sh!t). Those sheaths are highly sought after also, you should snatch that up immediately!!

Thanks for the responses,I really appreciated them.
As for finding a nice bali for a good price, you just have to look around online, cause i found this one online, not to mention the BM-35s that I posted about a few weeks back, that was found online as well....good luck to all and happy hunting

I have a feeling if I was dressed in a T shirt and tattered jeans Id get a harder time about carrying weapons but since I dont look like a thug, it seems I get an easier time from the local coppers. there was a site I knew of once that listed knife related statutes by state...but damned if I can find it again. Any help out there?

I haven't seen the knife, of course, but off hand I'd say that $70 would be criminal for that knife. You'd practically be stealing it. The sheath alone, which looks to be in great shape, is worth upwards of $200.

It's very hard to say from this picture. But, if that knife is in mint condition, then it's worth about $700.

Nate, there is a link to the knife laws at balisongxtreme.

As for that pre-BM,take it dude. That sheath is also very well made, and from that photo looks like it's still in great condition.I dabble with leatherwork, and to me it looks great.

Update: I just thumbed thru my Adv. Balisong Manual, and that sheath looks just like one in the back.If it is from the same maker, it's a keeper..the originals were sold for about $15,and were made until the maker died. After his death, the line was discontinued since they couldn't get anyone to make the same quality at a reasonable price.

The balisong looks a lot like a PC model 41,but those weren't anodized as far as I know or remember.

WOW,I had no idea it was worth that much.
Now I can't wait to get it in my grubby little hands.Although now i'm going to be afraid to do any kind of aerial with it.

Gollnick:The person said it's in great condition with one minor annodizing abrasion. The person told me it locked up tight in the open and closed position, which made me happy to hear that, almost as much as hearing what the knife could possibly be worth.

Thanks again,to everybody, for all the replies, where would I be wit out choo guys.

What a find!

You'd better step up and finish making the deal on that one...

Chris:
Someone else asked me that same exact question, and i'll tell you what I told him.
It wasn't that hard of a find,I just searched around for bali's using a search engine.I really can't tell you EXACTLY where i found it because if I did then you,or he,may be the one's to beat me out on the next bali for sale.Honestly, and REALLY be truthful, would you tell me?
Everything on the net is fair game, but there has to be SOME challenge to finding a great buy, otherwise it would take all the fun out of finding a really "prize" bali score.
I wish I could tell you more...but good luck and happy bali hunting.

MacCanine:
Thanks for the update, does book say what year exactly,or even approximately, the sheath was made?
And from what I was told it's not a PC,it was made by the Bali-song co.But i'm no expert and I doubt the person selling it was either.

Sheaths like that were made in the early '80s. Like Chuck said, the sheath alone can be worth upwards of $200!!!

I think I can tell by the depth of the counter-sunk holes that the knife is a custom with the milled 303 stainless handles; they're much heavier than the handles on the 40 series knives. I can't tell from the picture but it looks like the butterfly emblem/trademark has a 'circle c' copyright mark by it. If that's the case, it's after the BaliSong Cutlery days and into Pacific Cutlery. I think the last leather sheaths were made in 1983 or so.

I'll report everything about it as soon as I get it.
I just hope the person selling it doesn't read this forum, otherwise I may never get it,hehe.
