What is this facination of sharp pointy objects?? AND, how do I explain why I now have 5 CR fixed blades, (3 South African) along with all my Ka-Bars, Cold Steel, CRKT knives, and 3 dozen + swords of different types and sizes. Now I'm sure it could be explained if I was a young guy but heck, I'm now 60 and people ask me what I do with all these things. ( not many of them know about all my firearms too, lol) I think my daughter would have me committed if she knew how much CR knives cost me. She's of the mind a $15.00 knife is good enough. I just hope that when I go, she doesn't sell them at a yard sale.
Anyway, I was wondering what some of the rest of you say when asked why would anyone pay what we pay for these wonderful hunks of metal. And why we have to take them out every now and then and just handle them. Run them back and forth in our hands and check their sharpness. I keep hoping that CR will make Nkonka with a 5.5 " blade that can be worn while riding my motorcycle. Big blades seem to make most law enforcement officers nervous. Anyway, just wondering what all your thoughts are on this subject.

Welcome to your addiction!! AND welcome to your support group, all of us in the CRK forum!!! There is no cure. Just open up your wallet and say buh-bye to your money, and be done with it. I love my CRK knives. You can never have too many Sebbies or CRK FB's.

For me it has to do with the sheer admiration of quality objects in general, and ofcourse the old saying that a thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Life is too short to surround yourself with crap, so i try to seek the best specimens that i can afford, be it knives or anything else.

Maybe it's just a men's thing, to enjoy a finely made piece of cutlery or a quality pistol, personally i have never met a woman who did enjoy these things also,
:D

When someone asks me...why in the world would you spend that kind of money on knives my main reply is: how could you spend so much for hunting, fishing coins etc etc..mainly just nail them with there own hobbies:D

Sharp things are an addiction. Perhaps it is the lowly blade that makes up for the many short comings of the human body. I feel incomplete without a knife on my person.

Say hello to the lady that posted directly before you did.

Thank you Fooj!! Hello kwackster!!:D I too feel naked without a knife on me!!

Well what do you know, the Knife Collector is a woman ?
What about that !
Are you the one that likes wolves as well as knives ?
:)

I only have a handful of friends that share my passion for knives, most people that end up in the basement and see what my wife calls "THE DISPLAY" in "HIS ROOM" just stare, the ones that ask I just step behind the case and start pulling out treasures to share with them the next thing you know they are answering there own question. He's flipping nuts. :D
Seriously, it's a primal thing, it is my feeling that the reason many of us hold knives in such hi regard is because we wouldn't be here with out them, kind of like air in my opinion. ;)

I think the knife thing is genetic. Those that are able get or make knives are more likely to have food. People who are able to get food are likely to have more friends. Friends that don't have knives find friendly ways to reward the knife people who provide food. And nine months later and new knife lover is born! Same goes for gun people. Man gets food for woman, woman provides "comfort" and companionship. The tradition continues to this day.

Hello olfroggy, welcome to the forum! Here is what you do! Buy your daughter a $150 Chefs knife(early holiday gift of sorts),you know,a Wustoff or Henckels.Let her work in the kitchen with it for holiday meals and dinners for a month or so.Then, ask her if you can have it back.I bet I know the answer and I think you both will come to a understanding.

It takes you back to the beginning and deep inside the ideas and manufacturing of CRK.I just bought it and it is worth the $30.It shows the knife makers grinding,Chris does some as well and gets into some of the special knives that were made.We are here for ya!
