I got mine last friday, and the weather has been so crappy I haven't even been able to get outdoors and carve something with it. I really like it and would like to know more about it. I know it was issued in ww2, but that's about it. If anyone knows anything more about it, please post. BTW, I love the knife, the blade length and shape, and ive always liked kraton g handle material.

The Ka Bar went to war in the 40's and really has never come home. Over 200 Marines and Navy Corpsmen have been awarded the Medal of Honor in that time period, all no doubt carrying issued Ka Bars. Heaven only knows how many other awards and honors have been bestowed during that time frame; but one thing is for sure, there will be many more before the Kabar is finally retired for good.

You can search google for info on USN MKI knives. These were made in WWII by a number of manufacturers in very large quantities. They follow the same basic design as the new one, but with different handle materials. There was also a MKII with a longer blade.
