just some general information would be very helpful. I know that my brother picked it up in italy for around £30m maybe off a dealer or maybe from a shop i dont know but it looks real fancy and its just been in my room for about two years

You need to be MUCH more specific than that. There are dozens of Laguiole knives sold. It's a type of knife rather than a brand.

i specifically gave you you the type...i'm far from an expert but all i know is that it's a g. david laguiole 12 c27.

Again laguiole is a style of knife. I would guess that "g. david" is the maker. 12c27 is most likely the type of steel which is a fairly cheap, low end sandvik steel.

Actually, Sandvic 12c27 is probably the most commonly used steel in the European made Laguioles. It's used in most of the Laguioles that are actually produced in the Laguiole region of France, even many of the high end versions.

The Robert David's I've handled seemed to sport serviceable F&F overall, and featured very strong backsprings, maybe a bit too strong. I'd go as far as to call them nail breakers. Still the quality is there. They're a bit too garish and ornate for my taste.

Interesting. I suppose its similar to companies like case using basic 400 series for their stainless blades. Takes a good edge and is easy to touch up, albeit a bit more often than some other steels.

for the record 12C27 is not cheap, nor it is low end what so ever you were correct in that it is sandvik steel, what you failed to mention is that it is execellant steel, commonly used- actually one of the premium steels of europe, very easy to sharpen and will take a razor edge and--maintain that edge-- you can find 12C27 on ALL of the custom and "production" made laguioles.

Edited title.

From Bladeforums rules: WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH ?!?!?!?!

In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. This rule applies throughout the site.

In other words, without a paid Gold membership, you don't get to ask about sale values. Too many people abused this question to hint they had a knife for sale, which you need that membership for.
