Can someone help me? A knifemaker is looking at my designs, how does this work?

Hey guys I recently was talking to Mike Fullar at TOPS knives and he and I got to talking about designs, anyways he asked me to design a bunch for him and then mail them to him. What I would like to know is has anyone else ever had their design used by a maker, if so what is the general deal you get? Like a blade in exchange, just the honor of having your name on the knife, what? Also Phil I couldnt have done this without your swift kick to the butt, you got me thinking man. I got up off my butt stopped feeling bad for myself and called him up and talked to him about my designs. Thanks. geoff.

Mmm, just make sure you sign a contract for an agreed price, trade, rights, whatever, before you send the designs.

signing a contract is, when the maker/company wants to rip off your design, as good as an simple agreement IMHO... change here a bit, change there a bit and you got different knife, similiar but not the same.
just my 2 cents
