Photos Can someone help me find out/Translate the tang on my late fathers sword please

My father past away 18moths ago. I have his Sword which he has had since I can remember. I just want to get as much information about it as possible.

I suggest you sign up on this board and post your query there. There are experts who can identify your gunto.


For what it's worth my feeling is that it is a fake based on the tang signature. It appears to be 魚賀 which "can" be read Naga,
but is not a Japanese last or first name. In fact I think there is only one place in Japan (Iwate Prefecture) that uses it.
If it is a fake it would likely be of Chinese origin. Any sword "faked" in Japan would use a real Japanese name.
But I could be wrong so worth checking with the above site.

thank you for your help, I have posted on the other site as you suggested, and received some great advice so far. I have been told "This appears to be a WWII era blade in type 3 koshirae signed Kaneyoshi." but still checking atm

Thanks for the update. If anyone identifies the tang signature in your photo please let me know. Because it sure doesn't say
"Kaneyoshi".
 
Just checking in, if you haven't gotten an answer already, your sword is signed Kaneyoshi.
