Trying to help out a friend ID some Gerber knives her father-in-law left her. I don't know jack about Gerbers, so I'm hoping you folks can fill in the blanks. Mainly looking for model name and approximate age, although any other helpful info or history would be great. From the top:

Marked "Big Hunter." Textured aluminum handle, original Gerber sheath also marked "Big Hunter." 11" overall for scale.

Small lockback with drop point blade. All-plastic body/scales. I like this one.

Double-edged dagger. Brass hilt, wood handle, original sheath. High quality.

Partially double-edged dagger/boot knife. Top edge is partially serrated. Metal handle, original sheath. Doesn't seem to be very high quality.

You got some nice pieces there.

dates on those would be in the mid 70's, and I think the folder was called the LST. It was all stainless, and the hunter above it was chrome plated tool steel. Both will take and hold a wicked edge. Sorry I can't be more specific, but that'll get you started.

The two daggers look like Mk.1's to me, I've had one with the cast handle, but never seen one with a half edge. I'd say mid to late 70's. As the Mk1 and 2's that I bought in the mid 80's had ballistic nylon sheathes.

big hunter made in 70s. during this time gerber was using 440c on most folders.the big hunter was either l6 or m2. sometimes the blades were marked on tang desinating steel.L6 & m2 are carbon steels so gerber plated them.if it's m2 you will need diamonds to sharpen

Thanks for the info. The larger dagger looks like a Mark I Presentation. The smaller dagger appears to be a Command I, from what I can tell. I guess the LST is their ivory Micarta model.

They even made a few vascowear lockbacks. They called it "V" steel. My grail knife. I've not seen one outsede of an auction brochure.

I had a gerber in L6. I wish I still did. I gave it back to the guy that gave it too me after he lost most everything he owned. He needed it more than me at the time. It was very well ground, and made. Those were the days!

Others make better knives now but I still sure miss those old gerbers. I'd likely win a lottery before finding the "v" steel sportsman II.

mastiff the vasco wear come out in only one knife the f.s.2 about 82 or 83 . i had several. sold my last at central tex. knife show in 2000 or so . you are correct in gerbers quality before fiscars took them over. i still have a m.i.b. fs2 dated on brochure 1974 21.50$ those were the days.
