Hi folks! Im looking forward to buy the Kalinga Pro Fixed blade but wanted to do a minor modification first (i dont know if this is considered a custom). and that is to have the rosewood handles a bit larger, i.e. i dont want the steel handle which is on top, bottom and especially at the back to appear. Just 2 larger rosewood handles (left and right). Can Buck do this for me? and if not, who can do it for me?
Thanks in advance for your input!

Regards,
Laurence.

I haven't heard of Buck doing such a thing but I could be wrong. Someone who knows alot more than I do should be along to tell you more. It seems the design now would be stronger than what you are looking for. I dont know for sure.:o

If you just don't want the steel showing, Makilla, try popping off the sclaes and machining down the steel to a hidden tang design and then pinning on a similar sized piece of milled wood or micarta or the like. If a monstrous handle is what is wanted then go with a stronger material such as the micarta and build some brutes to cover the the full tang such as the wrap-around micarta 106 of 1969. Need a picture of that axe for reference, email for one of mine. Too much technical expertise for your comfort? Try Leroy Remer, who was a BUCK Custom Shop guru, at triple r knives and I am sure he will give you the desired effective knife. Any custom knife maker listed in Blade's Guide can too. Just what you want is in that realm......remember quality is worth the wait AND the price! Got cash?......or more appropriate......how bad do you want it?
Some philosophy for you.....there are four things in which there are NO substitutes: Faith, money, horsepower, and experience. What you are looking for takes a little of each. Have you got enough of life to realize just the significance of what I am getting at ????? However, good fortunes in attaining something remarkable that will suit your tastes and requirements------ :)
I need to quit drinking after work and before replying here don't I ??????

It doesn't seem to be a problem for others here...me included... :D:thumbup:

To get back to Makilla's question...Can you post a pic, with arrows & stuff, showing what you want??? I have a kind of vague idea what it is, but I don't have a pic of a Kalinga and Buck's Search feature on the Buck Knives site is useless...

Edit: Is this the one with the screw-attached scales??? That should be easy to make a set of custom scales for... :)

The Kalinga with screws holding the scales is the folding. the one im intented to work on is the Fixed blade which doesnt have screws. the wooden scales are fixed by some kind of pins or such alike. In my opinion, this minor modification im seeking for, should be done from the very start. before applying the original scales, Buck or someone should cut the wooden scales a bit larger and then apply them. very easy procedure! But i just need to know who can do me these? that's what im worried about. I hope Buck can do me this modification!

The only problem with your request, is the handles are machined outside of the Buck plant to exact dimensions. I would try to get a hold of someone who can shape the handles by hand to your specifications. Hope this helps.
