Thanks Alocksly, looks almost identical aside from no council logo. Love to know what B06 stands for. An uncommon axe in these parts.

It's new enough looking for the stamp to maybe indicate year of manufacture: 06.

I think you're right 300Six - I'll email council tool and ask if this is one of theirs - perhaps made for export market or some other supplier.

Yeah - I got it and am happy with the price. Thought it might go higher. Am guessing you were bidding too. . .

Yeah but I bought those three axe heads earlier in the evening and spent too much on those. I thought it might have been you bidding so it's gone to a good home , I wonder what movie it was used in? My guess is bridge to terabithia.

Cheers Raumatibeach. I noticed you've picked up a few recently - the flint edge and john riley kent pattern hatchet are especially nice. I've asked the seller for any info on the axe and what the film shoot was for. Terabithia would be cool - will let you know.

There was nice old marathon that went for $5 in the weekend I just missed out on too .I was going to try and use native timber for the handles but I'm not 100% sure what to use on a full size axe. Have you ever used black maire? Locally I can only get Atlas hickory handles and I'm a bit suspect about the quality of them.

Only know what i've read about black maire - very dense hardwood used by settlers as substitute for lignam vitae. It would be strong enough but heavy and I'm not sure how much it would flex. I've heard of kahikitea, rata and titoki being used. I buy new old stock handles when i get the chance. New store bought including Atlas are pretty ordinary and expensive. The Link ones are slightly better.

The axe was used very in a music video - at 0:21 seconds and again at 2:50.

I was lucky to get that marathon but no idea of age, who made it or country of origin. I have another one somewhere and had assumed it was chinese - now i'm not so sure. I'll post a pic in a new thread at some stage - hopefully someone will recognise it.

I missed out on a marathon tonight, I thought they were a chinese brand too. They might have been an american brand that they bought the name of, it seems to happen with tools and fishing gear a fair bit.

That kelly flint axe turned up today it'll look good with my kelly dandedong on the rack. I might have a go with black maire and let you know what its like. Manuka is another I've seen mentioned too.

hi guys, 9 years late to the party - but the Marathon axe heads... what if anything is known about them? I have been scouring the internet for information and can barely find a whisper
