Maybe an old Enfield Bayonet?

Don't try to clean it or restore it untill you find out exactly what it is! If it has any collectors value, you would significantly reduce that value with such actions.

Can look up the tang stamps at this site; bayonet for the MkIII Enfield made August 1945 seems about right.

If the blade is about 10-inches long it is probably an Indian made version of the bayonet for the .303 SMLE rifle. The bayonet was cut back from the normal 17-inches to be more handy in Jungle Warfare. John
