Can someone identify this?

All of those balisongs are 9" long total: 5" closed 4" blade length. $10 sounds pretty good, for a Rostfrei. Rostfrei you have to be careful with, I have one that has the tang pin not centered in the tang. Rostfrei's are lighter and have thinner handles than Jag's, in retail stores Jags are about 20 bucks and Rostfrei's are anywhere from $12-$20. Jag handles are thicker and heavier than most and can hurt when you bounce them off the back of your hands. Enough with all of this rampant talk.

Knives are beautiful, don't make them appear ugly!

Wow, quite the searcher you are! I got tired after the first few. These are all either Jaguars and rostfries. If you want Jags, go click on the link to the store at the right. For Rostfries, go to www.discountknives.com, they are like 5 bucks each, just about how much they are worth. I suggest getting a DF-201, or a jag with oval hole cutouts.

A real knife collector is always broke.

The unintiated may wish to know that the term "Rostfrei" is not a maker. It is a german word and means "Rust Free". It also means stainless steel. Many charming cheapie balisongs (and other knives too) are marked Rostfrei probably in an attempt to make them seem like better quality German-made products. Just because a knife has a German word on it, don't assume it's a German knife. Most knives with the tang stamp "Rostfrei" are actually made in China. So, the term Rostfrei has sort of become a slang term for any cheap imported knife.

However, one of my favorite balisongs is a charming china cheapie that I got for something like $10. It's a genuine Rostfrei, says so right on the blade. But, that thing has great pins, it's well balanced, moves well, etc. The edge is worthless and the latch is loose as the proverbial goose, but it's still a fun play toy. I just wish I had bought ten of 'em when I had the chance.

Wow, that's old. I thought 4cs had cleaned all that stuff out.

But, that picture is on the auction watch on my new site sold on eBay back on December 12th, 1999 for $5.50. That's right five and one-half dollars for both. As I said at the time:

Wow, what a great deal. The Valor
Ninja knives are a bit difficult to find
since Valor changed the name to
"Samurai Warrior" fairly early on. This
one looks to be in reasonable condition.
The other knife is also a good looking
piece. It's nice of the seller to be frank
about the condition (he even included a
close-up of the questionable pin). But, I
wouldn't try to fix it. As it stands, this
is a collectible knife.

And all of that for $5.50! This buy gets
the rare +++. Congratulations, you stole
both of those balisongs!

Neither knife is especially special and both are in less-than-mint condition, but both for $5.50 was a great buy.
