It must be the steel that costs so much $. Anyone have blades in it and can comment on its edge retention, etc?

Cowry X and Cowry Y are made by Daido Tokushu Ko . Cowry X is high carbon steel , and Cowry Y is semi-stainless steel. Both are manufactured by powder ...

I couldn't justify that price for a factory knife. My custom DDR with some of my own features I asked Darrel to implement does not cost 1400+ bucks! That Fallkniven without savings, costs more than half the price of the custom 1911 I am getting in the future.

EDIT: I originally thought it was 849 dollars...but that's only savings. That thing better be sharper than a light saber and have the ability to make me a sammich on command.

Nice knife, but personally, I agree with harkamus. To each their own though as long as they enjoy it.

I definitely agree with harkamus that I couldn't justify that price.

As far as what Cowry X is, it's very similar to ZDP-189, with the biggest difference between the steels simply being that they're made by competing Japanese steel companies. Both have 3% carbon and 20% chromium (not sure about the exact percentages of other alloying elements), as well as attainable hardnesses in the mid-to-upper 60s.

For that price, those scales better be pre-ban ivory, and the shield and guard better be gold.

Even then, I think the price would be a bit steep. :p
Oh don't say that, gold goes for almost $1,500 per ounce nowadays.

Maybe if someone made a folder with Sebenza level of tight tolerances and something like S150V in third generation PM steel, that might be worth it. Oh, and there would also need to be a few gemstone inlays in the handle and thumbstud:thumbup:.

and also a gigaflux capacitor?

Yeah, definitely. I think my limit would be about half that for a factory knife, and only for a really, really nice one. More than that and I'd rather invest in something handmade.

Edit:

Jesus christ, I thought the price was $849, not $1500-- wow

I'm a BIG fan of Fallkniven. Awesome user knives from a family owned business. With that said....it'll be a cold day in Hades before I could justify spending that much on ANY knife.

Prices and hobbies cannot be explained. When I first started collecting knives, anything over $100 seemed like a lot, now I edc an XM-18. Someone is going to want that bad enough to pay that price.

I just started looking into what is available in custom titanium flashlights. Sticker shock got me, I'll be sticking to production for now.
