Can someone please define the following terms and give a brief description and/or example of a knife that uses it :

1/. Hollow Ground

2/. Flat Ground

3/. Saber grind

And also any other grinds etc that aren't on the list

Thanks

Hey Llamedos -- this link will provide the info you're looking for, w/illustrations:

Mad Dog ain't the most favored maker on this forum, but his article provides some good info. Each grind has its place, depending on particular chores and, ultimately, what you feel works best for you.

Hope this helps --

Joe Talmadge has written some excellent knife related FAQ's, which should answere your question(s). At the top of the page, there's a box called "Quick Navigation". Click on it and select "Knowledge And Features", then click "Go!", and then click on the "Knowledge Base" link.

Or, you could go directly to:

This might be a good place to ask a question I've been wondering about for a long time. Several months ago I heard the term "vapor ware" used in connection with knives. What does this mean? I'm not sure, but the way I understood it is that it's a knife (or perhaps any other product) that is heavily advertised but may, in fact, not actually exist.

That's right. Vaporware (one word) was originally a computer term for software that was hyped but never delivered.

Paper ware is a product that exist only as chartware. There is marketing collateral but no workable prototype hardware. In essence there is a product plan but no product.

Vapor Ware is a product that has yet to evolve to the paper ware stage. Its in the concept stages and has yet to be defined in detail.

...ware.

that'l be what i learned today.
