Can someone please help me with making a sheath for a Res C handled blade?

I have made 1 sheath for a Res C handled blade and it has worked but not well. I would like to make a sheath for my SY 511 but have so much trouble with the locking part of the handle. Any pointers would be great. Do you wrap the Res C handle in material as to keep the Kydex from fully forming around it? Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated. I saw another post but it wasn't to detailed

Pics of the first attempt would be a great starting place.

Forming around those soft rubber like materials is tough. Some give too much and compress when pressing the kydex, and some are just hard to insert and have good retention since the handle is "grippy" which is the whole idea behind their design.

One solution is to flair the top a little to provide a funnel effect for the handle to begin it's way in and start spreading the kydex.

Thank you, I just had a major brainstorm and if it works I will share my results to help other folks in my Kydex/Res C dilemma

If your brainstorm doesn't work, there are plenty of talented kydex experts here that will help you. They have seen every challenge and tried it all at one point or another.

YEEEAHHHH, my brainstorm failed but I saw where my errors were and this was made today. Saved $40, it's not perfect but it is good for my very first taco sheath and the retention is perfect. I screwed up the 5th hole down, the durn drill bit caught and started spinning the sheath so the hole went all weird. A touch of epoxy and all will be well. I will be making 1 for my 711 in the next few days.

Tape the rubber handle, it will help a bunch.

then when the sheath is cool and shaped, heat just the mouth of the sheath and turn out just the edges.

Put one more eyelet near the tip of that blade. A sheath is a shield and designed to protect you from the blade. If you fall and the pommel of the blade is struck hard enough, the tip of that knife is going to come through the front of that sheath.
Great job for your first. I filled up a 5 gallon bucket with scrap when I started. I had a $15 used belt sander I bought off craigslist. I pinched it in my vise and put a spring clamp on the trigger to keep it running. Did the same with my old B&D jigsaw to cut the kydex (Yes I still have all of my fingers). Sold a few and used the money to buy better equipment. Now I have a shop full of it. LOL

Keep up the good work and be sure to post more pics. All of us benders want to see where you end up.

Great info from you guys and I will definitely add an extra eyelet. I made this sheath for my 711 today. I need to try to make some eyelet spacing jigs because 2 of my holes ended up being off, WOMP WOMP! All in all very satisfied with the turnout of both my sheaths, the retention is great on both and they feel like they will carry well.

Turn that Tek Lok upside down on the sheath. MUCH EASIER to clip on and off with the latch at the top of your belt.
