Can someone please ID this Gerber boot knife? Garage sale find, $2.50.

I remember that one. The Clip-Lock ? Rivermaster ? It's a Blackie Collins design, I just can't remember the exact name.

I used to carry one of those in my climbing pack. This was back in the early 90's. I had been on a week long climbing trip up in Washington, I was living in Huntington beach, CA, at the time. i was flying home out of SeaTac and my pack was my only luggage, just small enough to carry on. When asked if there were any knives, guns.... at security I answered yes there was a knife somewhere in my pack. They wanted to see it. It took me five minutes to dig it out. They decided I couldn't carry it on. There was a nice police officer who said he would take it into his personal possession and mail it to me. I never saw it again.

An awfully uncomfortable handle.
Edges on those integral handle daggers
Being not too rounded off.
Simply Not ergonomic.
A bit wide for all but large or gloved hands.
As you can see it was more or less a guardless double edge.
The key feature of this knife was its clip like locking mechanism.
That is pretty secure.
You see a belt clip moulded on to the sheath.
What most folks don't have is the nylon carrier accessory
Which allows the sheath to ride in a nylon pouch
With a belt loops for attachment onto a life vest.

I dunno, wrapping anything round the handle would
Interfere with the clip lock
Besides creating an even thicker handle profile.
Problem with these things didn't go unnoticed
Thats probably why the the cliplocks were retired
And in its place stuff like the river shorty
Having a handle moulded over
I guess some slight improvement could be had
By bulking up the thin slab of sharpened steel.
Much as it were having scales...

I have had every variation of this knife...these are the ones that I chose to keep. They were $40 brand new and made in both Italy and Portland, Oregon.
