If the Khuks on this site are from Himalayan Imports? As you can probably guess I don't really know what I'm talking about as far as these go, any help much appreciated.

Have a good one.

Uncle Bill will be around shortly to answer your question.

Thanks for the link. Those stands look like a great way to display both blade and sheath separately. I may end up ordering a couple for the khukuris I already have.

Cheers

Interesting.

They are using the term "100 year HI superfrog". As far as the knives go, there are experts here who can tell at a glance.

Looks like a rip off of HI to me. Hope I'm wrong about that. :grumpy:

Bill will know.

Those look like they are from a place called "Gurkha House", they sell for real cheap, but you have to pay shipping from where they are located (India/Nepal). I dont know about quality, but I can tell you that it is not up to par with HI. This has been discussed elsewhere, and the fit/finish of HI is bar none.

Thanks for the replies. If they aren't from HI I won't consider buying one. I was hoping to find a UK dealer for these but if the above aren't genuine it seems unlikely that I will.

The last I heard Gurkha House went out of business. However, there is another company that is selling supposedly Khuks from Nepal that may or may not come from there. I know that one of the companies in india are copying HI knives. These in this thread are not HI unless they all came from shop one. The Bolster is not right for shop two. Something about the fullers doesn't look quite right either. The names of some of the models sound like India.

Hmmmm...smells like a ripoff to me:grumpy:

(edited to add) and if that turns out to be the case I won't be ordering a damn thing from them:mad:

Framar did buy some knives from us but hasn't in the past year or so. As far as I can tell they don't have the HI bolster and he's using names we don't use. Maybe the village sarki is doing some moonlighting and making some 100 year HI superfrogs for other shops!!!

First of all M@thew let me welcome you to the Cantina, otherwise known as the Psycho Ward.:)

Looks like your question has been answered in full about the H.I.Products.
The khuks look like they're made at the Khukuri House in Nepal from the buttcaps, but I can't tell if they're the scrolled ones or not.
They may or may not be worth the money and I would question the fellow and see if he offers the same kind of guarantee that Uncle Bill offers.
(I kind of doubt it, but one never knows unless they ask.)
If he does and the prices are considerably cheaper you may have found yourself a bargain.
If not, then there's always H.I. with their foolproof guarantee that absolutely cannot be beat nor the customer service and/or satisfaction.

I do have a question though. I looked over the guy's site, mostly the custom gallery. It's my understanding that the citizens there can't carry knives like that legally.
So are these mostly for people collecting or what?
Do the citizens have to register knives like those?

does look like an HI khuk. Haven't seen those anywhere else, for sale. The bolster would suggest that its a few years old, as the bolster now is extended over the first 1/2inch of the blade.

Thanks guys!

Obviously Himalayan Imports are recognised as the best khukuris around. I wouldn't want to risk buying one that is of poorer quality or worse yet an imitation.

Yvsa, There is no need for UK residents to register knives such as the ones on this website. Basically the law here forbids the carrying of anything for self defense, you can only carry a non-locking folder with a blade less than three inches. However, this does not apply if you can say that you need the knife for your work. I'm not sure about those customs.. I would say that hunters and collectors probably make up the customer base.

Gawd! What a horrible thought. :(

Thanks M@thew, that's at least good to know. I didn't think there were many hunters left in the Misty Isles.

Semp, this could be us in just a damned few years if we're not really careful!!!!:( :(

Maybe it's me, but those do not look like HI Superfrogs. I'd just about bet a case of cold beer that if you flopped 'em over and looked you'd find rivets a la Khukuri House. A minor point, but aggravating no less.:grumpy:

The law over here is pretty sickening, however the likelihood of such (knife carry)laws being enforced on an individual basis is minute IMO. Personally I've EDCd many larger 'tactical' folders for a few years (I live in an urban environment, no need or desire to carry a FB EDC) and had no problems. A situation involving a police officer searching a responsible citizen in the first place is hard to imagine realistically, multiply that by the probability of the officer involved feeling like going through the motions to follow through after finding a knife on a person who comes across as being very unlikely to have plans to commit any further criminal act with it...
Basically what I'm saying is that those laws are in place so that the police have the power to penalise criminals for activities involving knives. If carrying a knife with a lock on it a person's only crime, I really can't imagine them ending up in court or custody over it.
