Can Someone Recommend a Good Belt for Khukuris?

I've got a cheapo nylon web belt right now that works ok, but the webbing is pretty thin and tends to roll over on itself, especially with heavier knives. Can anyone recommend a good belt for knife carry? I'm looking for something that is easy to put on and remove, and also something that is easily adjustable. The one I have now is a pain to adjust. I've read about rigger belts, but I don't plan on doing any climbing.

For my AK Chiruwa I currently use a classic U.S. military belt. Large, strong, solid, easy to find, cheap. I carry my khukury across one's back.

Regards,

Stephen.

Hello,

when I am out fishing I use a military belt too (German Bundeswehr Koppel) it is made of a very strong webbing, easy to adjust and cheap.
This belt is not that good if you carry a rucksack that has a hip belt itself, because the buckle is quite large and will become uncomfortable under the pack`s belt. In this case I will wear a police-leather belt. It is strong enough and made for a lots of little bags/pouches (handcuffs, ammo etc.) looks more "civilian", is not that broad and works quite well - costs about 10 € (= 10 US$) over here.

greetings from bavaria,

Andreas

Riggers Belts, like those sold by Botach Tactical and Lightfighter are pretty good for holding up just about whatever you hang from them. I've also found that the best, most durable normal belts are bought from holstersmiths, as their belts are designed for holding up a holster and are generally much more durable than the mass produced stuff you buy at the department store.

BTW, I really wouldn't call a rigger's belt hard to put on, compared to say, a full climbing harness. Most of them have just a standard loopback buckle, and some have velcro on the tail(darned nice, as you don't have that floppy tail to deal with).

Ditto what Thunderchyld said, I use belts from The Wilderness. www.thewilderness.com They have three types, of varying stiffness (versus rolling over). For everyday wear and CCW I use the 5-stich one, the middle of the scale. For shooting matches I use the C.S.M. high-stiffness one, in addition to the stiching, the webbing has a plastic sheet inside for stiffness. Lately the Wilderness came out with narrower versions of their belts, as well as tan and blue ones IIRC. The original size is 1 3/4" high, and depending on the belt loops it can be a bit tight. But I pretty much shop for belt loops and big pockets these days :D

Are the Wilderness belts adjustable, and can they be worn outside the beltloops? I am looking for something that I can wear even if I don't have beltloops (shorts, etc) I think I am looking for something along the lines of a sam browne belt , thought I'm not really sure. Thanks for the imput so far.

They are wide and stiff enough to be worn like that, the lined one is pretty close in stiffness to the modern USGI LBE belt, although you might look around at one of the leather gunfighter low-slung rigs if you want some more style. All depends on what your waistline is like too.

Edit: oh yeah, they are adjustable over a fairly wide range, but pay attention to their sizing chart. The tip of the belt is left a bit floppier, and threads through the buckle and reverses itself to attach to velcro.

In the U.S. you could check out the tool belts at the Home Improvement places. Some of them are wide enough to classify as weight lifters belts and are made of thicker leather than normal.
They're vegetable tanned leather and can be easily cut down if they're too wide.

Hey, Ysva, that might be just what I am looking for. I'll have to swing by Lowe's or Home Depot this weekend. If that doesn't work out, I'll probably take a look at one of the Wilderness belts. It would actually be cool to have something in leather that matched the sheaths of my khukuris.

I just use a leather belt, thick as I can find.

That tool pouch sound interesting.

The two belts that I use the most are a Sam Brown and, a pistol belt from Uncle Mike's, The nylon belt from uncle mikes is 2" and stiff enough not to fold. The one I have doesn't have any cartridge loops.

If you like the leather belts Yvsa's idea of the tool belts whould work just fine with out cutting them. The buckles on the ones sold at Wal-Mart have a roller on the lead portion of the buckle.

I find that the nylon is better for this country in TX because of the temp., humidity, and is uneffected by the sweat that I leave on the belt on a hot day. I usually wash it out a bit once or twice a monyh any way. Fairly thin but such a tight weave that it is pretty stiff and buckle and unbuckles easy.:)

Im not big on wearing knives off my belt, but I do have a rather big belt. Dickies brand, bought at Wal-Mart for under $10. About 2 inches wide, little over 1/4" thick, black leather. Holes go all the way to buckle, so it should fit no matter how thin.

check Home Depot tool section, they have two type's of Web Belts one is thicker cotton, the other is nylon both with fast-tac connection's. thier around $6.00.
