I'm having a hard time seeing the subtle differance betwwen the Britsh Army Service and a 15" Ang Khola. Does anyone have a side by side shot that would illustrate the differance? Only thing I can see is a slightly diferant engraving on the blade... what am I missng?

You'll notice that the AK15 has a wide fuller at approximately the top middle of the blade (thus the "back-hollow" name), this serves to make the knife more weight-forward for chopping. The BAS does not have this fuller. I've compared my BAS with Issun's villager AK15 and they look very, very similar from a distance (even a short one). The BAS is slightly heavier and the AK15 is noticeably more weight-forward.

Here's what I'm talking about

AK15 is on top and the fuller is visible

There is no fuller on the BAS

as noted above, mostly

the ak has more belly and less weight, thanks to the fuller Im not sure if I noticed that it was more weight forward or not... Rob's BAS definently has more steel on it making for a heavier knife, though it is very well balanced, the ak just feels a hair more nimble, though they really are quite similar

Also keep in mind that these specs are what one would expect in a perfect world. However, the kamis are sometimes agents of chaos (in a good way:D). I have seen BAS' that are heavier than AKs (generally the AK's are forged a bit beefier at the spine and tip). I have seen AKs lighter than comparable sirus.

When in doubt, look for a fuller. If it has the impression up there at the top of the spine, you got an AK. If it has no indentation there, well you might have a BAS...maybe;) I have a villager (my first khuk) that is an AK in every possible regard except it has no fuller. So...no fuller, no AK. But its not a BAS either;)

Nomenclature is a funny thing, ain't it?:D
