Can someone tell me about the Buck 55?

Found these on for a steal locally, and am having a hard time passing them up.

Basically I need to know if it's even worth it, as I am hesitant to buy anything in 420.

If anyone has any experience with em, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mlehto

The 55 is a great little pocket folder. Very classy and built like a little tank. You can't go wrong.

Buck's 420HC is excellent -- tough, highly stain resistant, takes a scarey sharp edge and is easy to resharpen. Not the latest super steel but it's served millions of knife owners very well. One of the best bangs for the Buck, IMHO... (sorry :D).

Thanks guys.

So I guess at $10 a piece BNIB it is worth picking a couple up.......;)

eBay is full of counterfeit Bucks. If you can post pictures, you might get some good advice from the crew on the Buck sub forum.

They are legit.

Just picked up 2 of them. ;)

They were the last of the clearance at the local Walmart.

Awhile ago I got a couple Kershaw Storms for $10 a piece from the same store, and never really looked at any of the Bucks. Seems they have been slowly clearing out alot of the knives. I was just there earlier picking up some ammo, and these were behind a couple of the ammo boxes I grabbed. Thats when I noticed them, so I came here to ask.

Regular price was $38.00, then marked down to $20, and final clearance price was $10. I imagine they have been tucked in behind some of the ammo for some time.

Glad I did. ;)

I just discovered those Buck 55 as well and have been meaning to try one. I look forward to your impressions and pics!
Cheers,
Jim

Nothing at all wrong with Buck's 420. It's been subject to one of the best heat treats possible and while no super steel is more than serviceable, and certainly serves better in the way of edge retention than Case's tru-sharp.

Nice little knives, and built like brick telephone booths. I gave one to a friend who uses the heck out of it.

Buck heat treats its 420HC to about a 58 Rockwell, significantly harder than any other company runs that alloy. It makes a big difference in the performance.

For the $10 I paid this is as good as it gets!

Carried it today, and last night since picking it up, and it is thin enough to dissappear in the pocket.

The fit and finish are pretty good, and they both lock up like a vault.

I haven't cut much, but they are sharp. Not as sharp as I know I can get em, but out of the box they are pretty good.

I don't have any real traditional folders, other than a Fallkniven U4, but I do like this quite a bit. If I don't want something clipped to my pocket this will likely be my go to from here on in.

And for $10!! Haha

Sorry, had to rub it in. LOL

For the 10 dollars you paid I believe it's safe to say you stole it. All in all they're a classy minimalist lockback that's easy in the pocket and very useable for most all tasks required of a EDC knife.

You guys said it. I can't think of anything bad to say about my 55. I'm surprised they're not more popular. I think Buck waited a decade or two too long to put these out. They should have launched it during the height of the 110's popularity. It really is a great combo: 55 in pocket all week long, and the 110 on belt during the weekend.
