can someone tell me about the different metals

I have just looked through a poppular knife book. I saw many different types of metals the blades were made of. ATS-34, ATS-55, 440,AUSA8 and many others. What are the good ones and what should I avoid ? Any help would be appreciated.

Run searchs on these:

BG-42, Talonite, D-2, ATS-34, S-90V is the new one I think.

Those ones ones are usually regarded as the best currently out there.

Talonite and S-90V will cost the most, ATS-34 the least out of those.
