Basically i want to buy this cheap honshu karambit, remove the edge of the blade and then paint it and use it for trainer/aestetic purposes.

Basicaly in wondering if there is any easy and safe way to make the edge usharp/round without destroying the rest of the blade. Thanks m80s
Im not shure if this is the right place to post this but it seems appropriate.

Are you serious? You're asking HOW to make a knife dull???? I've heard it all now. Thank you. Made my day.

Make one out of wood, wax impregnated leather, aluminum. You could easily dull it, but to use it with a live partner will still be dangerous - even a dull knife tip can penetrate far easier than you might imagine, and the dulled edge still cause very severe bruising etc.

I'm sure the cheap karambit will be butter knife dull when you recieve it. Every cheap tactical knife I've ever bought had dull edge out of box. I believe it's because they are mostly marketing these knives to children and want them as dull as possible so they won't hurt themselves or others.

To unsharpen a blade, dull it.
One method to do this is by cutting directly into a hard surface such as ceramic. Once you have removed the edge, you can round it out by stropping/sanding at a very high angle just as you would sand the sharp edges off of anything else.

Should someone make a video explaining how this is done? ... :o

That is for the edge. As mentioned above, the tip will remain dangerous as a stabbing-weapon since that is part of the design. You can round the tip similarly to rounding the edge described above, but unlike the rest of the blade the tip is still narrow enough to turn force into high stabbing pressure just like a ball-point pen or plastic fork. Be careful not to poke your eye out. In order to avoid such danger, as described above it is best to use some material other than steel for the blade, rubber would be a good choice and is commonly used for movie-prop knives for just that reason, it is too flexible to induce serious injury under most circumstances.

My recommendation is to buy a rubber toy if this is to be used as a toy as described. Knives are not toys, they are tools that are inherently dangerous just like saws and hammers and firearms. Be responsible in your use of them.

Let's not assume that the OP intends to use the "trainer" with a partner. Perhaps he just wants a trainer to practice his draw and opening.

It's relatively easy to turn a real knife into a somewhat harmless trainer. A common file can be used to dull the edge and round the tip. A coarse sharpening stone could also be used. In fact, a brick or piece of cement could also be used.

On a side note- it is still possible to take out an eye with a rubber, wood, plastic, or aluminum training knife. Any person who plans to engage in combative training with a partner, whether armed or unarmed, would be well-advised to seek qualified instruction first to help prevent injury.

Just Google "karambit trainer" and you'll find tons of karambits with dulled edges and blunt tips used for training. Many are very cheap.

Sure, find a brick or a piece of concrete close to home and try to cut it repeatedly.

I know that you can buy a trainer, but basically i love the shape of the honshu karambit and i am only intending to spin it and let it sit on a shelf for looks. Im not intending to use it on someone because the blade will obviously still be pointy because of the general shape of a karambit.

You could take a knife and round the edge off completely with sandpaper and sand down the tip a lot and put something like Plastidip on the tip in the shape of a ball for little stabbing chance.

Im not gonna stab Antoni with it just planning to flip and spin.

Make a trainer out of a piece of rubber or foam rubber, that way you can train hard, hit hard as one would do in a real life situation.

I make sharp knives dull for use in theatrical productions pretty frequently. It only takes a few minutes with a belt sander, longer if all you have is sandpaper or sharpening stones. If you just need it dull enough for "spinning" that should not take too long. Holding the blade perpendicular to the abrasive, grind the sharp bevel off and blunt/round over the tip. Switch to a finer abrasive and round over the formerly sharp edge and tip of the blade. Check carefully for burrs and make sure all the edges are smooth and rounded over. A small burr can give you a cut that will bleed much more than you'd expect.
"Real" knives are poor choices to start with if you need a combat trainer though. You are always better off buying a trainer. By the time you grind the blade back to thick enough metal to be somewhat safe, the blade shape is changed a lot. If you grind off just enough to dull the knife, you are training with something that approximates a butter knife, still quite dangerous and potentially deadly

Cold steel makes a karambit out of grivory. It's somewhat sharp out of the box and can definitely stab thing but it'd be extremely simple to cut off and round the tip and blunt any sharp edges. They're only like $9 too.

Good advice, but he mentioned wanting it to "sit on a shelf for looks", i.e. fantasy-blade / toy. *shrug*

I go through this with the local Wick-en's, every year. "Fancy PC name for devil worshipper!"

The want daggers dulled for their spring rites ceremonies.

Walk out to the curb in front of your residence and saw back and forth on it and the tip until desired Dullness & Bluntness is achieved.

So sit the sharp one on the shelf instead of ruining it? The honshu lineup from UC isn't the greatest but it isn't complete garbage and totally functional.

Its illegal to carry it around in my country, and im not gonna use it for utility work either.
I just want to spin it and have it as a showpiece.
