I stummbled upon this today and I know this is not the place for it but i'm sure it'll get a LOT of attention! Read this and let know if SAMO from Malaysia is being Dis'!

Originally posted by SAMO in Spyderco Forum's Spyderco Fixed Blades - Opinions? (Page 2) thread asked by Sal:
"Fixed bladed spydies are indeed a refreshing idea! Gives more confindence to ELU's like me Blade material should be versatile enough to hold an edge which can be easily sharpened. Handle ought to incorporate the latest composite materials for a good grip and ergonomics. Heard plenty about the Moran featherweigt but haven't got the chance to own this goodie. Price range should not exceed 150 US dollars. This way, guys like me living in the Far East would afford to own one even if the freight charges are too costly. I think those 'lil Finnish Puukkos are worth looking at in terms of design and practicality in use. As for country origin of opinion, I have no preference. Just as long as you guys are willing and able to churn out more practical knives : you've got a loyal spydie customer here in Malaysia!"

The Following thread by James Mattis:
Coungtry of origin ....
Anyplace where

a The manufacturer can get the heat treatment right and otherwise produce a quality product, and

b A citizen publicly can call the chief of state a liar and a fool, and sleep at home that night and go to work as usual the next day.

And what the HELL is b suppose to mean? Samo did not pursue this but i will! Explain to me JAMES and it better be a good one. Am i piss? Should i be? Is the answer directed to my country? Please forumites, tell me if such answer is Necessary!

I think James's thoughts are pointed more towards China than any other country but in general we all have a problem with countries who lack good common human rights laws.

But I will leave the floor to James to answer should he choose and then I would suggest this and any thread which turns political be moved to another forum.

Sal asked in his thread what preferences we had concerning country of origin. I have a preference, so I said so. I indicated that I prefer to buy products from some place that can sneak into a discussion of free countries in a good week. If you can call the head of state a knave and a fool and not become a missing person, a political prisoner, or just unemployed, you probably live in a free country, and I'll gladly do business there.

I was specifically thinking of the "People's Republic," whose goods I avoid whenever there is an alternative in the store (or the store across town - I'll go wherever there's an alternative to PRC merchandise). I'll happily buy a knife or other product from Taiwan, which is now a lively democracy where the opposition just won an election. Good news from Mexico last week too. Maylasia is certainly less repressive than the PRC, and I've shuffled through shelves full of PRC merchandise in electronics stores to find something from Malaysia I could buy instead.

And I can't use anything made or powered with oil without supporting the bigoted medieval monarchy that runs Saudi Arabia, so constistency would be impossible unless I dropped out of the modern economy entirely.

I'll let the forum owner decide if this belongs here or in "Politics."

WOW! I think that's the shortest war I've seen here. Or anywhere else, for that matter. Nicely done, guys.

Now I am really glad this didnot blow up into something unneccessary. I think a lot of people are sensative and have the right to be if they feel insulted. As I was born in Malaysia and lived there for my first nine years I can see why Eric got upset. But like I said I am glad this is over. I dont like wars when I can talk about knives more.

Eric - Thanks for raising point "b". I was initially dumbfounded with the post by James. Haven't got a clue what he was directing all that jazz to. So, you kasi belasah this guy well to put him back in line! Anyway James, FIY, China is a lot more different than Malaysia. So, if you are upset about knock-offs and all that jazz, I guess its simply about a matter of choice-lah! Here in Kuala Lumpur, we appreciate good stuff. But the recent economic problems in Asia had made it really difficult for guys like me to purchase items that you guys can offer from the US. If you want to argue about labour problems, Government policies, beraucracy and all that crap, don't take it on me because I think that is a waste of bandwidth... But I you want to sell knives to folks like us in Malaysia, you are welcomed anytime : because we appreciate quality.

I think the issue is dead at this point and there is no point in continuing it on this forum. Should you wish to discuss the issue further, feel free to do so in the community/political forum
