Hello Guys & Gals,

Just wandering if anybody here could help me date this cool little slippy and and give me any other background on her??. She is 3 inches closed, has faux pearl scales and has extremely sharp carbon steel blades.

If any one could assist me, I would be much obliged..

That is a nice knife! The brades are carbon steel so are the springs. The bolsters are nickel silver with nickel silver pins on both ends. The covers are made of celluloid. The liners are made of brass. The pins holding the covers on are the old pin on pins. They are brass, and so is the mid pin. The knife is very sharp because the canbon steel will hold a edge a lot better then stainless. I am thinking this knife was made in the 50's I could be worng. I worked ther for 38 years so I am going by that. That is a nice knife I would hang to it. I use to fix knives that came in,but they didnt look yours.Put a little oil on the blade tangs that knife should last a long time

Thanks Thomas!. Great information here and it is much appreciated. I got this one back in the early 1990's while at a local Gun & Knife show where I live. I have always liked this knife a lot and carried it off and on over the years, but could never bring myself to use it.

I oil this one every couple of months or so along with the rest of my accumulation. And your right on with your assessment, as she is about due for another shot of 3-in-1.. So I am off to do that little chore right now.

Thanks Again,

Anthony

Thomas,
Thank you very much for posting.
I too have wondered about the CAMCO line. I have heard that it was a second line and not of the quality of those branded Camillus. However, I have several CAMCO knives and do not find then secondary in any to those with the Camillus brand. I would appreciate your insider comments on this.

What, if any are the differences between those knives branded CAMCO and those branded Camillus?

Thank you,
Dale

The CAMCO line was introduced in 1948. This line of knives was lower priced than the regular Camillus line. There are minor differences in materials and finishing. Usually the backs are not finished on CAMCO knives. Many of the CAMCO knives were sold as advertising knives and the handles were hot stamped. The CAMCO line also included many of the character knives like the Rocketship knife, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, etc.
The CAMCO Barlow knife was known as the model #551.
