Can SR-101 be hot blued?

Hello,

I was wondering if I stripped the coating off an SR-101 blade and polished it out, would the steel to take a standard firearms type, hot bluing treatment?

I have a project in mind with a SWMM that's enroute...ie: Blued with Manzanita Burl scales. (I have a Custon Blackhawk being put together by David Clements and the revolver will need a constant companion!!!)

Is there anyone on the forum who does custom scale work to Swamp Rat knives?

THANKS!!!

I have seen blued ratweilers in the past, not sure if they were hot or cold blued.

It is carbon steel, so I would guess that it could.

Go for it, post pics when you get it done!

Thanks Guys,

That's what I was hoping. I'm still six-nine months out getting the revolver back, so I have time to get the scales done.

Anyone have a suggestion on where to have the manzanita scales shaped and fastened? Does Swamp Rat have a Custom Shop like Busse Combat?

THANKS AGAIN!

300F of hot bluing is close or at risk of ruining the heat treat. You could find out approximately what temperature the steel is tempered at, if it is under that you should be fiene
