I'm considering a Spartan, but the finish is a show-stopper for me.

Can the bead blast be removed?
And if so, how do i go about that?
Do I need to disassemble the knife?

sure can, ive done it to mine. just sand it off, start with say 220 and work up from there. technically you dont have to take apart the knife, but itd look far better if you did and did a proper sanding. its not too hard to put back together.

Go rent or find some one with a media blaster cabinet. Glass beads are preferable.

Put the knife in, and blast away. It may take some time to remove the bead blast coating, so keep at it.

(Shoot, my snarky comment was too slow)
Bead blast finish, is simply a slightly rougher finish on the metal, given with a media blast (small particles that impart a roughened surface).

You can get it off the blade with sand paper and hard work.

Or just stone wash it right over the blast. Many stonewashed finishes are blasted first anyway.

It is a texture. You remove texture by sanding it away, or by putting an even more aggressive texture over it.

thanks for the replies.

There are two knives I want that have this horrible finish: The Spartan and the Espada.

Let's try the Spartan first.

I like the idea of using duracoat. Can that be applied to the handle scales also?
Or is there a better choice for that purpose? Something grippy?
