Can the Field Grade RR 'hawk be polished?

Is there any significant difference between the field grade and presentation grade that would prevent someone from polishing a field grade RR 'hawk after they have purchased it?

Never having seen one of the RR 'hawks up close, I don't know if there are usually any deep forging marks or hammer marks on the field grade hawk that would be difficult or impossible to clean up.

I'm not trying to discount the work that the staff at ATC puts into their products. I'm just thinking that I could much more easily afford the field grade 'hawk and as time allows polish it myself.

Also, what type of care and or finish is used on the presentation grade to prevent rust?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Actually all the collector grades start as the field grade version. So to answer your question yes a RR field grade can be polished to a collector grade version. However if you have the right equipment it will take you 4 to 6 hours depending on the forging marks and how deep the hammer marks are. As for protecting the head after it is polished a light coat of oil works well and make sure you clean it off after it is handled. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

RangerJD,

Thanks! I was hoping that this was the case. :)

For a while I was considering purchasing a lesser quality hawk so that I had something to 'play' with while I'm saving up for a nice ATC hawk. Now I'm just planning on saving a little while longer and getting the hawk that I really want.

Cheers!
