Can the Rift's thumb stud be removed?

Can the Rift's thumb stud be removed? If so how? All my other BMs clearly can be removed with torx bit but the Rift does not have them. Anyone done this?

3/16 nut driver works like a charm. If they're (the studs) locked on on tight, I'll use two, one to hold, the other to turn.
