Can any of you tell me if the Tracker can replace a machete or should I keep old faithfull with me too.

What do you use your machete for? One will do things better than the other, just depends on what you plan on doing with it.

Are you talking about the Tom Brown tracker? It could replace a camp knife or small hatchet but not a machete. For $200+ why would you? The steel on the tracker is really not that special. There are a whole lot of good machetes out there for less than $20. I use CS machetes, they are inexpensive and withstand a ton of abuse. Use the search feature on this and other forums to find links on machetes.

I do a lot of off-trail hiking and sometimes I need to make my own trail .This question was posed because I'm going on a long distance endurance hike later this summer and I'm looking to keep my pack as light as possible. So if I can find something that can do the job of 3-4 tools that's weight I don't have to carry.

No, the tracker is not a good replacement for a machete. The machete is a lightweight tool used to clear brush. It has reach and relies on leverage to produce speed. The difference will be apparent the first time you try to chop through some thorny brush.

The Tracker design is really poor for that, too short and too thick.
