Here are some pictures of a Buck 110 that was given to me by my grandfather. As you can see, he used this knife. I would like to know if this knife the blade can be replaced and the body cleaned.

Why not keep the gift and get a brand new 110 to be pretty. I'd rather have a knife I could say my grandfather carried and have it look the part.

I agree. For the price of a new one, you can ensure your grandfathers knife stays safe. Losing a knife you carry around all the time can be easy for some.

I say send it back to Buck and it will come back like new...Then USE it, thats why your Grandfather gave it to you in the first place, just try not to lose it....

My mother in law gave me a Case knife that was my FILs....It had a small chip on the main blade and I wouldn't carry it that way...I thought about leaving it "as is" but WHY? I ended up sending it back to Case and now its perfect...I will carry and use it now and thats what my father in law would want me to do...That 110 was a worker knife for your Pap, I would feel better using it with a new blade than letting it sit at home using something else...

New blade will cost $10 plus the shipping to Buck. The return will be paid by Buck. They will clean it up also, it looks to be in good shape. I agree with CellerDrummer, get it fixed up ad use it.

Whats wrong with that that some brasso/flitz wouldnt fix? Sharpen, scotchbrite the blade, then put it away.

I did take some brasso to this knife already. However, the knife was given to me knowing that I would use it. My grandfather would have wanted me to use it. I would like to keep the original blade if possible.

That blade looks to be about 1/2-3/4 inches short. And with the tip and part of the edge exposed could pose a risk . If I understand you,you want a new blade and want to keep the old blade as well?
You will need to contact Buck and see if that is possible. I think it is unlikely, but a phone call or email BEFORE sending it in can't hurt.

I'd keep that old-timer just like it is..As was previously mentioned, you can buy a brand new one to look pretty. my .02 worth..

There is no way I would send buck this knife. I see nothing wrong w/ it. Looks like the tip was broke and it has been reshaped. I would clean it myself and continue to use it. Its already broke in. That blade is a working man's tool. There's a lot of life left in. I'm welling to bet it'll out last one bought next week.

I always say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

And that knife is DEFINITELY broke.

:D

By all means, get a normal length blade on it.

I live right by the Buck facility and went through the plant on a tour. I brough a 30+ year old 110 that had a chipped blade, and a smaller folder "Prince" maybe?) that was warn down to a pick. After the tour the lady took my knives back to the techs while I wandered around in the store and museum. About 15 minutes later I had my knives back with new blades and polished like new. The small one had been abused and they even managed to get most of the dents polished out. It cost me nothing as I had been there on tour.

IIRC she said you could keep the old blade by special request but I'm not sure. If it were me, I'd get the blade replaced and enjoy Grandpa's knife!

Send it off, get it fixed, use it like hell when it comes back, and in 20, 30 years when your sitting on the front step with your grand kid you start talking.... This is the knife my grandad gave me when I was a kid... And their heart may swell and their smile might be as big as the one you have.... And you can tell them where to send it off to get tuned up again.

my two centioves
1st-locate a three line no dot knife with a great blade in it -
2ed - send it and grampaws knife to JOE HOUSER
tell him that you want grampaws knife fixed with the good blade from the ole one

most likely joe will get it done and
like as not you could pay to have a new blade put in the old blade donor frame
and ask for the blade they took out of your paps knife..

yes if it was give to you to use
by all means honor the one that gave it to you and use it

Wise advice from 110 Dave!

Yes indeed! That's a sound course of action, and very much within reach. Joe is a great guy, and I'm sure he'll help you any way that he can!
By the way, congrats on your knife. A well-loved 110 is a thing of beauty, and especially more so when it has such deep sentimental value.
