I'm thinking along the lines of a Buck Mini-mentor, but with a better steel. Around 2.5 to 3" blade, 6.5'-7 OA. If the WM1 was a bit shallower with its drop point, I could use, but I want more of a true clip. I'm talking primarily PRODUCTION, not custom at this point, Thanks, diamdave

I'm sorry man, but you just don't see 3" fixed knives in the factory market, and if you do, it's usually in some utterly pathethic steel, i've always been of the opinion that you shouldn't go fixed until about 4.5".

Though in the world of nice folders I recommend a Camillus EDC in 154CM, D2, or Talonite, depending on what rocks yer boat :)

Mate, If this is your first 3" fixed why not spend just a bit more and get a really
good knife the first time?? Have a look at http://dozierknives.com/top.html
That's Bob Dozier's site. This man makes real working cutting tools that are a
huge bargain for what you get. I have two of his small knives and both of them
cut like they are 6" long or longer, which they are not.

The smaller Dozier's cost about $140 +/- and are worth ever penny paid. Have a look
to see if there is something you'll like. Oh yes, Bob & Linda are really nice folk's too,

If you can settle for Drop Point instead of Clip Point, I can recommend Fällkniven WM-1, with Neck Kydex Sheath. I have one, and it is a cute little knife, a little less than 3 inch blade length, but with VG-10 steel!

Im not sure what use you have in mind for this knife, or maby you just have a prefrence for clip points.. there are a number of non production knives that will darned near anything you ask for a very reasonable price.
One of my fav's is the Magnum Monk by Allen Blade that has a 2.5" blade of D2 and at 99.00 its a real steal

There are many many knives that fit into the 3" area on BladeArt and the prices there are as reasonable as it gets.. Plus if you go into the Good, Bad and the Ugly section you will see many positive things said about that paticular site... its a good place to start looking. I agree with the others here in that there isnt much of a selection in production knives, espically if your looking for a small fixed blade of decent steel.... and for the $20-50 you'd pay for a "so-so" knife you might as well go $100 for a knife that you will love and keep for a long time.. really the extra money is well worth it when concidering the smaller more affordable knives.

The only one that I know of that has a 3 inch blade is the Cold Steel Para. This knife has a Kraton handle, is 5 3/4 iches overall with 3 inch clip point blade for about $30.00 to $40.00. I don't know how good a knife this is.

The Marbles Trailcraft has a 3 3/4 inch blade and runs from $75.00 to $140.00 depending on handle material chosen.

If I was going to spend $140.00 on a production knife, I would take a look at some of the custom makers out there. The above mentioned Bob Dozier and Geno Denning come to mind, but I am sure there are many others.

...So forgive the "over zealous posting" ... but how about one of these beauties for an elegant little blade that will be as professional as they are functional :D (im trying out for a infomercal spokes person today)

Both $99 and between 2" and 3"

the above mentioned by Dozier....this one should acomplish "the" task at hand

Dozier's canoe knife 2,3/4" 7" OAL.. $149

OR... If you MUST go production.. for what ever reason.. here are some options;
Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter (small) 3" blade and about $40

Para Edge Clip point (top option.. but I bet you can figure that out)also about $40 maby a little less...

I really like this option from the Knives of Alaska The Cub Bear

2, 3/4" edge and about 6, 1/2" OAL, and about $50...

Plus many many more options...

I looked at the Rekat Pikuni but decided to buy the Allen Blade Magnum Monk pictured in this thread. Then I decided to sell it. It's for sale now in the custom knife forum. Nice knife but I prefer a longer handle for better grip.

From the sounds of all the recommendations for The Magnum Monk am I to take it that Allen has gotten his act together? I certainly hope this in indeed the case. In the past he has had a lot of trouble meeting his obligations and it sure would be nice to see that that is behind him.

3" in a production clip point is a pretty tall order. Bob Dozier makes a very nice one.
The REKAT Pikuni is nice, but a little on the thick side. The Schrade Sharpfinger might be close to what you are looking for.

Do not overlook John Grecos recent line of 8000 series tool steel fix blades. They have a black epoxy coat, bolted micarta scales and a full tang. All hand made by John himself. I recently visited and chatted with him at the Chesapeake show in Timonium, Baltimore, MD. He had an assortment drop point variants. I am not sure if he had a clip point available. But he can surely make you one. The models he had displayed were of 7" - 8" in OAL. Each starting at only $65!!! I regret not taking one back with me to try out. $65...

thanks everyone. Lots to think about. I was thinking of the Allen Blade design, but I got burned in the early '90's... waited a year and a half for a Ranger Light, great knife by the way, but I got it only after Fighting Knives editor went to bat for me....long story. If he has cleaned things up, I'm interested. Now Greco... that looks very nice. I've had his Cub Companion before, excellent piece. I'm not familiar with knives of Alaska, but i'll take a look. Cheers....
