Can "vape" induce corrosion ?

Hi,

I've stopped smoking a year ago, and then moved. I'm using a vape still and some of my knives are exposed in the living room of my new appartment. They are protected like I always did, with froglube paste coating the blades.
However, since I'm often using the vape inside, I am now wondering if the grease/moisture that might contain the vapor from and e-cig might create corrosion on my more rust-prone blades, like Maxamet.

Does anyone know enough about "vaping" (God I hate that word) and knives to have an hypothesis on the subject ?
Thanks a lot in advance.

PS : sorry if the grammar is terrible, we french people do our best !

Yes, vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol is hygroscopic and will draw in moisture from the air.

Ok, thanks. That's what it felt like on surfaces like windows after some really non-scientific tests !

I'm gonna put the knives back in the pelican case or have to start using the e-cig outside.

I've been vaping for several years and haven't noticed anything with my knives being affected. I keep mine oiled pretty good though so that might make a difference.

Nah. Mine would be Swiss cheese by now.

000Robert 000Robert & AntDog AntDog That's a good thing to hear. Even if the vapor is made of products that draw water from the air, living in a rather dry environment and not blowing directly into the knives (duh) might be enough to not have any problem.

Since i'm paranoid I still might have to use an hygrometer to see what it's like in this new apartment. Seems to have more humidity than my old one (even if I still live in the same region).

The vapor that I breathe out disappears pretty quick into the air so I would say that it is wetter than the air in the house.

I'll get my hygrometer on monday, i'll check the "normal" percentage of humidity in the air, that might help me to put my mind at ease.

For me, if I vape in the apartment it stays stagnant for some time, approx 10 seconds .

Little update here : My new appartment has some issues with insulation.
The hygrometer fluctuates between 55% humidity when it's sunny for several days and 70% when it's raining outside.

IMHO 70% seems pretty high so I'm keeping my Maxamet under close observation !

Worried about the knives being exposed to a part per billion while you are inhaling that straight. Wow. PSA's aside, a safe with a small dehumidifying bar should be an option. Even better if you can bolt it somewhere it can't easily be lifted. Good luck.

I think that you are worried about a whole bunch of nothing. I have been vaping for several years now and have seen no effects of it on my knives. Not even on my Damascus knives that were made in Pakistan. If you keep your knives oiled then you have nothing to worry about.

You're right, Vaping isn't gonna be a problem, what was the problem is the poor insulation of the new appartment ^^.
There is clear gaps in the front door leading to outside. I bought some stuff to block that a bit.

ElementalBreakdown ElementalBreakdown yes dehumidifying bar in the Pelican case, that's done already ! My question was mostly because my Spydercos are now exposed to air non stop :
