Love this steel, and how agressive it cuts! Unfortunately havent been able to pick up military in d2, or any other d2 knives spyderco put out!

The only knives in CPM-D2 that Spyderco has put out that I am aware of are the Military and the Para. Both are long discontinued, but still pop up in various places including the Exchange. Keep in mind, D2 and the CPM version are very different.
The availability of Carpenters XHP steel makes it very improbable that we will be seeing anymore CPM- D2 or regular D2, seeing as the composition is so similar to CPM-D2. Pick yurself up a Manix2, Military, or Para2 in XHP. As always, only Sal knows for sure what they have stored for a special occassion.

Xhp is similar in preformance and the way it cuts to d2 but not composition. Its similar in composition to 440c ,its a 440 micro melt, 440 on steroids. I love xhp i even have my manix xhp in my pocket as i type this, i even like it better then the m390 on my military . Not to side track hijack but For me YMMV aka stay calm it holds its shaving edge longer then my m390 or 20cp para. I like my knives sharp not much below shaving so even though those two will out do xhp in the long run i never let my blades go that much

You cant find any xhp spyderco on the exchanges? Its as aggressive as d2 for me and holds its edge longer than cpmd2 while being stainless at the same time. I have to say i dont like the way high vanadium steels cut. If you still insist on d2 be a little patient i have seen them on exchanges oon this forum and others usally reasonably priced to

It's powder steel 440XH, which is stainless D2. It's name is confusing, but it is just like a CPM D2, but has more chromium. It also uses a slightly different powder process which they have claimed is as good a process as B/U 3rd generation steels coming out of europe. However they make it, and whatever generation it is called it sure seems well liked and is popular for it's cutting performance as Spydusse points out.

One reason CPM D2 never really caught on with the custom knifemaking crowd besides cost was the smaller carbide size caused by the powder steel process. Usually thought of as a good thing, the smaller carbides took away what a certain group of knifemakers that use D2 take advantage of. Those huge honking Chrome carbides which can make such effective skinning and quartering type knives. Has anyone ever known a professional hunting guide that didn't love Dozier knives performance?

Kind of almost over simplifying things as Dozier also does some other things extremely well to make his knives perform, but they do take advantage of the D2 carbide structure. He also has his heat treat down so well that I've heard 60.5 rc is the average hardness for his knives. He calls it rc 60-61, but it's usually dead on at 60.5.

Personally the D2 family isn't my favorite and I believe I even used it for my second, or third knife I made years ago but I like CPM D2. I'm one that does like it more than regular D2. XHP to me is a good performing steel, but like CPM D2, and D2 itself I can take it or leave it. I don't see XHP as really being superior to CPM D2 at around rc 62 or so.

Send me a pm and I will shoot you a link to a dealer with d2 para's in stock at what I would consider a reasonable price.

And that's part of the answer to the OP's question. The fact that you can still buy the CPM-D2 Para1 sprint new, years after the small production run finished, says something about how it was received by the market. :( In the meantime, lots of other steels (like CTS-XHP mentioned in this thread) have come along and have been much better received by the market. So, no, very unlikely that there will be more CPM-D2 Spyderco blades, and probably no chance at all of ingot D2.

The more agressive it is the more I like it, because Ill put a toothy edge on it, anyways so thats why i like d2....its the most agressive steel ive ever used!

So far...... what knife do you have in d2 that cuts like this? It depends a lot on grind. My0551 wouldnt cut worth a dam, really bummed me out cause i heard people raving bout elmax. I sent the thing to tom krien he put a super thin hollow grind on it and its super awesome yes i said that super awesome cutter now. I still say xhp closer to 440c in composition

I used a dozier skinner in d2, lol but its probably completely different than cpmd2..........I love steels with large carbide size!!!!!!Thx for comments!I have seen few Dozier knives in d2 perform and for cutting they blow away almost everything else!

What other steels that spyderco uses cut agressively?????Most of my spydercos are in vg10, its ok but not really what im looking for.s30v is agressive cutter, but is there something better ?or should I just stick with s30v........

according to charts (and these fora) the two hardest are cpm m-4 (US) and zdp 189 (japanese.) both have a hardness of 63-64 rockwell (compared with a file at 62). the two steels are regular offerings; the taiwanese-made gayle bradley with m-4, and most japanese-made models having a zdp option (from the ladybug all the way to the caly and stretch.)

my first zdp, an endura, is still a month away given the mailing and customs in my country. :D

I really like the way my cf zdp stretch cuts. I would say give that a try ,its a nice thin blade so it slices very well. That or xhp is very aggresive. I don't like the way high vanadium steels like s30 cut

Does zdp cuts agressively with polished edge too? Id like to try xhp.....Had an old caly jr with laminated zdp189 not sure how agressively it cut as i was only shaving hair with it, untill I left it at my buddys place and he broke it.Tried to pry something open with it.....what an idiot , and it cost me 100dol....

by the way, you should look up threads in GD on what non-knife people can do to your knife: anything from what you experienced, to cutting the back of a girl's hand who's sitting next to you just to see if it's as sharp as you claim.

Mine has a 1200 grit finish and it cuts super aggressive. You should hold out for that cf zdp 3.5" caly thats coming out. Make your bud buy it for ya

N690 is very aggressive, so is S90V.

if they come out with knives in S110V and K390 both of them are aggressive.

That knife wouldn't cut well because the grind was more like a brick than a knife blade.

I know because I had one here for a short time.
