just wondering if some of the posters of this arena would be willing to share pics and how to's of simple things that folks like myself, who dont hunt and fish but would like to learn can get a few easy resources. some basic thread how tos would be great. if it seems super easy and redundant to an old outdoorsman i need to hear it :)
just lookin for things like:

how to clean a caught fish
tips to fishing for certain species of fish
maybe cooking tips
likewise
how to gut / butcher larger game
how to gut small game
etc.

i know you avid hunters/ fishermen do this all the time. if youd be willing to take some pics and a simple step by step write up it would be awesome. i know things like this are available on the net searching its just cool to see what the "locals" on the forum suggest and have them all in one place. thanks - CB

I realize you are trying to get a HOW TO section going here, but YouTube has some great videos made by regular guys showing almost anything you need to know about fishing, cleaning fish, hunting and butchering game. I have benefited greatly from watching some videos there.

Perhaps we could do what you asked if it hadn't already been covered elsewhere.

Heres a basic fishing strategy that is easy to learn and highly effective. Novices and veteran anglers catch millions of fish each year this way.

Learn how to tie a good knot http://www.animatedknots.com/trilene/index.php {the trilene knot is what I use the most} , get some hooks[bait keepers size 1 , 2 or my favorite octopuss hooks] , sinkers [egg sinkers], and some live nightcrawlers or other live bait. Just thread the nightcrawler on the hook the best you can, but leave the point of the hook exposed. This is important or the fish may get off.The worm will probably be to big for the hook, just pinch it off. Cast out , after it settles to the bottom , tighten the line up a little. Stick in a rod holder with the tip in the air then watch. A bite will cause the line and the tip to move. If you dont get a bite in fifteen minutes reel in and cast to a different spot. A quarter to half ounce weight will usually work . If your fishing in current you may have to go heavier. Fish dont have hands, if the line is moving then its in his mouth. Set the hook firmly.

Pay attention to where you get bites and where you dont. When fishing like this I tie the hook on the end and let the sinker slide. Its not necessary to use a sinker stop so that the weight doesnt ride up next to the hook but most people do. They use a swivel , which requires two more knots , or you can just tie a small stick on by using several half hitches, or use a small split shot. Or just let the sinker slide with no stop. I often use a jig head with live bait, it works just as well.

Fishing is usually best in the early morning or late afternoon. Cloudy days are generally better then sunny days.A shady bank better than a sunny bank. A little chop on the water is generally better than a calm surface, and sometimes a lot of wind and big waves will have the fish feeding shallow.

A 6.5 foot medium action rod is a good choice with a medium sized spincast reel suitable for a newbe. 12 lb test monofilament will work well. Fluorescent blue being an excellent choice because it is highly visible , which is a big advantage when tightlining. Stren and Trilene both make them.

Set ups like this will work anywhere for multiple spieces and good for small to med-large freshwater fish. Pay attention and experiment often.

Cleaning large and small game are pretty much the small process. Skin, cut around the butt hole, spill its guts, careful not to puncture the intestine.

As far as catching fish and killing game, if there's a step by step, eveybody will be successful. You can dunk a worm as long as you want, but if you don't know the habits of your fish, you may just be drowning worms. If you don't know where the game are, you are going for an armed walk.

Once you understand the habits of different species of fish and game, you'll have a easier time figuring out how to get them in different times of year and conditions,
