Have a yellow Ladybug hawkbill on the way, not really a fan of the yellow, anyone know if it can dyed black? Thanks.

I don't know about a yellow G10 Ladybug but it's likely FRN which can be dyed with textile dyes.
(have done this once or twice but never tried black, colors usually turn out different because you don't start with a white material but black might work very well)

My bad, the blade is VG-10, lol. The scales are FRN.

There is a member (the Peacent) who dyed the yellow FRN handles of a Spyderco knife black, but it didn't last.

One of the attributes of FRN is that it doesn't absorb liquids. So I wouldn't expect it to hold a dye. The dye will get trapped in all the nooks and crannies of the handle, but it's going to wear off from the smooth edges and any surface that comes into regular contact with your hands or clothing.

Thanks, yellow it stays.

I was never a fan of the yellow either but after edc-ing a yellow Pacific Salt SE for 5 weeks staying with friends and working on their farm in the mountains in N-Portugal last year I became a bit of a fan.
Where I normally prefer an edc to not really show (in urban environment) the yellow FRN is great in a green/muddy/rocky environment like that so you can still find it 10 seconds after you put it down somewhere.. ;)

I dyed my yellow H1 ladybug black using rit powder dye. I used all of the recommended additives, something like salt, vinegar and a drop of dish detergent. Boiled it in a pot for hours. Every once in awhile I find myself dying another knife or item black and throw the ladybug into the pot. It's black, you can't over shoot "cook time" so just let it simmer in a pot for a few hours. I have noticed absolutely no wear on it whatsoever after years of carry in my coin pocket. I suspect that much of the issues with the color wearing down to yellow just comes from lack of time in the dye.

I've rit dyed my h1 hawk bill and my dragonfly. Make sure the blade stays out of the water or it causes discoloration to the h1 logo. It's been over a year and it holds up great. I wouldn't be surprised it it eventually fades a little but it can always be re-dyed. I found the powder works best.
