Can You Believe This?

It's too late for me!

I didn't realize how much if this stuff is in my own home!

I guess it's time to come out of the closet. I have been drinking this stuff with leaves of certain plants dissolved in it for years.:o

You can't make me stop!

I'll keep checking in until it finally does me in...

BTW, I'd be horrified to learn that the kamis use this stuff in making Khuks! Say it ain't so!

Tom

Shocking!

And how does this apply to khukuris?

1. If there was no dhmo, khuks would never rust!
2. When the dhmo contained in horn and wood leaches out into the environment, it causes shrinkage of the substrate.
3. Prolonged, continuous exposure of the leather on the scabbards to dhmo causes them to rot and disintegrate!

Something needs to be done!

Steve

Let's not get too wound up over it. I have it on good authority that the kamis use DHMO during the forging and hardening processes. Without DHMO, we would not have the khukuri.

Still, some regulation and warnings would be nice. There were periods of time while I was in the navy where I was quite literally surrounded by the stuff. We were instructed on the inhalation hazards posed by DHMO and some precautions against this, but I had no idea just how dangerous it was.

Happy April First, everyone.

Geez, Dave. Where have you been. Old news to the environmentally sensitive -- ever since the Noah Incident.

Where can I get the bumper stickers? I once discovered the solid stuff had been added to a single malt Scotch , and I had to send it back. You can't be too careful these days.

I was telling my mother about the dangers of this stuff just the other day. She thinks it's just fine since it hasn't killed her yet. :(

How good is the source of your info on this ? It just seems a bit alarmist to me , The site seems to have a slight shock value attached to it .

personally i've known all along about the infamous hydrogen rust.

Thousands die each year from water ingestion,
its called drowning.
Most compounds if used improperly, or in incorrect concentrations will harm people.
sounds like more psuedo science yelling "wolf".

Okay you might want to sit down for what I'M about to tell you. I forgot to lock it up I admit it. But last summer I caught my 5yr old shooting the stuff out of a gun at her sister:eek:

Of course. Lungs fill with fluid and they drown. Horiffic!

And C.I.T. has a national reputation. Take your "pseudo science" and rehydrate it.

I had to do a double take at the name of the chemical... took me about 3 seconds to realize what it was. High school chemistry pays off again!

Again you make my point. See Dave, even HS students are warned!

Good one, Dave! Parts of the site seemed fishy but it was when Bandit made the post about the chemical name that light finally dawned on marblehead. :o

Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colorless and odorless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the unstable radical Hydroxide, the components of which are found in a number of caustic, explosive and poisonous compounds such as Sulfuric Acid, Nitroglycerine and Ethyl Alcohol.

Dave:

I don't want to explode.

Oh wait, I do believe I learned how to balance such equations as early as 8th grade. It is just interesting how knowledge from back in school stys with you so long... especially considering then always using the excuse "I'm never gonna need to know this stuff!". :)
