Simple question, is it legal? Also, is there a limit on the length of fixed blades that can be concealed in Arizona? I suppose I could wear it on my belt but I think that would rub most sheeple the wrong way. I posted this in knife laws but no one answered. Any help will be VERY appreciated. And if you were wondering, Yes this is the RC-3 I got to replace my old hunting knife. But its gonna make one hell of an EDC until my next trip :D

Call to the local PD is going to be alot more help than the interwebs. Problem is the laws usually change faster than websites update, and even if the state laws are open, local laws can sometimes be diffrent.

any knife not intented as a weapon (offensive or defensive in nature)
any knife under 3" 1/2"
any knife following theese guidelines can be legally carried concealed or open in all parts of AZ except when to do so would be un-lawful ie; school courthouse ect.

Actually, I have found in the past that many LEOs often have only hazy or downright incorrect ideas of the actualy knife laws in their states. Its just not one of their priorities. Your best bet is to find the actual relevant state laws yourself (these days, most of them can be found on state government websites). You are right that many local governments have their own, often more restrictive, knife and weapons laws which are often harder to find.

If you really want to get a good answer on that you might want to try and talk to an attorney, maybe you know one or someone you know knows one.

In many cases, thats very true. But if you can get them to actually dig and look it up, it's not bad

I have been to AZ several times over the years once with RAT on an outing years ago.I carried my Simonich 7 in fixed blade on my side the whole time.If you are out in the woods or desert no one is going to say anything to you if they do just hand them your knife when they leave grab your backup blade in your backpack.Dont worry about it is what im tryin to say. Before I had a CCW I always carried when in the woods or city, because I knew if I needed it I would worry about the consequences of havin it after the fact of savin my ass.You would have to be commiting a crime with a weapon to get in trouble for having it such as drinkin and drivin or carrying drugs on your person, those laws are there to punish people in those circumstances. You are obviously law abidin or you wouldnt have asked in the first place, carry and use your tools this is America dont feel oppressed brother!!!:D

Listed here is what is illegal in the following cities in arizona...

Flagstaff, AZ. other kind of knife or weapon except a pocket knife not manufactured for the purpose of offense or defense.

Florence, AZ knives with a blade in excess of three (3) inches,

Gilbert, AZ other knife except a pocket knife not manufactured for offense and defense in town buildings.

Glendale, AZ knives with blades longer than three and one-half (3 1/2) inches

Phoenix, AZ knife or weapon, except a pocket knife not manufactured and used for the purpose of offense and defense.

Scottsdale, AZ knives with blades longer than three and one-half (3 1/2) inches in Parks

Tempe, AZ any establishment where spirituous liquor is sold or dispensed no knife of any kind

Yuma, AZ any dagger or other knife designed or intended for fighting

Here is a simplified version of the Arizona state laws on knives:

Knife Type | Open Carry | Concealed Carry | Notes
Folding Knives | Yes | Yes | State law permit concealed carry of pocket knives without a permit. See, Ariz. Rev. Stat. § 13-3102 (2006).
Note, however, that the term “pocket knife” is not defined in the statute. Travelers should avoid carry of folding knives with large blades without a recognized concealed weapons permit.
Fixed Bladed Knives | Yes | No | May be carried concealed with a valid, recognized concealed weapons permit.
Dirks, Daggers, & Stilettos | Yes | No | May be carried concealed with a valid, recognized concealed weapons permit.
Automatic Knives | Yes | No | May be carried concealed with a valid, recognized concealed weapons permit.
Balisongs | Yes | No | May be carried concealed with a valid, recognized concealed weapons permit.

Well, apparently tables aren't enabled on this forum. :(

Vege-Taco - just wanted to add that AZ permits open carry of virtually anything up to and including a bazooka (that is only a slight exaggeration as you know)

Open carry of an RC3 outside of the laws depicting length should be of no consequence, same as an open-carry firearm.

And open carry applies to anyone, not just an AZ resident.

Mad Dog and Dervish will be ecstatic!

On a serious note, I've carried a Bear Cat (Mad Dog knife, 5.4 inch blade) openly and concealed, in bars/ restaurants, etc in Tempe, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Glendale and Flagstaff.

In the Phoenix airport while waiting for the shuttle north to Prescott Valley I get my bag, retrieve my Bear Cat, tuck in my jeans IWB and then go sit at the bar in the non-secured area while waiting for the bus.

There are always cops in the non-secured area as well as by baggage.

AZ is a whole different place than i am used to.

If you fly into Sky Harbor (Phoenix) the local authorities will ask if you have a gun.

If you say "no," they offer you a loaner :D

I love me the Sovereign Republic of AZ.

Ive decided.
I'm going to go IWB and not worry about it.
It's not as though an RC-3 with orange handles looks like a weapon anyway.
Not to mention that public drunkenness and possession of illegal substances are non issue for me.
So I think as long as I don't deliberately attract attention to myself I should be fine.
And your not far off with the guns :D Most of mine stay at home though.
