I have a Schrade Scrimshaw SC509 and its very old, I was wondering if anyone new of a way to brighten the delrin back , its kind of a light creamish yellow color but has darkened some with age. Is there a magical trick ? I have been able to polish the steel with simichrome and that worked well but would like to clean up the delrin as well.
Thanks
Cary

Delrin can be sanded and polished. Start with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. You will probably have to extend the sanding onto the flush bolsters. Then use fresh 600 grit, then buff lightly with 0000 steel wool. Polish on a muslin wheel with tripoli compound, or green compound used very lightly.
If you don't have a buffer, Simichrome can be used at 90 degree angles to your sanding lines. Secure the knife and "shoe shine" with a cloth with Simichrome lightly applied.

Thanks for the info, I will give this a try, Where do you get the green stuff ?
I would assume since this is a scrimshaw that any more than a light sanding will wipe out the scrimshaw. Thanks so much again, this is a real help

I didn't notice the scrimshaw part. Be very careful, or you will remove it.
