Can you dye bone that's on a knife?

Is it possible or even doable to dye bone scales, if scales is the correct term, while they are on a knife?

I don't know how to dye bone, and think that liners, shields, bolster and pins might get in the way.

I'm asking here instead of the maintenance part because this is where I believe most of the bone folks are.

Sure, I've dyed several knives with no problem. Caveat: don't do it with Case CV steel knives. The dye will cause pitting on the blades. SS Case knives - no problems.

Is case CV steel similar to 1095?

i used black rit dye on a case TB saddlehorn trapper(production version) which i think is cv with no ill effect.
