I don't know anything about it, but just picked it up because I liked it's look, and it's price was not something I could get hurt on.

If you guys could please help answer some of the questions I have about it, I'd really appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜Š

What organization do you believe it was made and used for?

What range in time would you say it's from?

What position and reason would a person have received or purchased this sword?

And anything else you folks could share with me about it, would be most greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Š

Other than a few links on the handles chain not looking factory original, everything else seems to be original, or so I think ๐Ÿค”

Thanks in advance!

Well, it was very grimy, but nothing that an old soft t-shirt moistened with some alcohol couldn't handle.

I felt bad that the little leather bumper washer at the base of the blade literally broke into two pieces and fell onto the floor. I guess it had simply gotten that dry and brittle over the years and gave up the ghost. I replaced it with a light brown piece of felt that I shaped and fit to it so that the hilt still has that soft landing when the sword is placed into it's scabbard... And, it actually looks good ๐Ÿ‘

Anyhow, after it's wipe down with the alcohol on all of it's metal surfaces, I applied some Renaissance Wax to the entire thing, even carefully treating the leather handle with it. Hoping it helps preserve it for more years to come.
The blade has small amounts of minor rust and freckles, but seriously minor when one considers it's age and it being carbon steel.
I am not a professional on this stuff, but I would guess the entire sword at 90% condition.

Other than my now knowing that it was made for use with the 'Nights of Pythias', I don't have any other info about it.
I don't know it's vintage, but if I were to guess... Maybe late 1800's to early 1900's?... Dunno ๐Ÿค”

Hoping some other folks see this post and maybe can share some more tidbits about it ๐Ÿ˜Š20220612_125159(1).jpg20220612_125238.jpg20220612_125251.jpg20220612_125256.jpg

Love the history! ๐Ÿ˜Š

My 'Knights of Pythias' sword was apparently for a person in the 'Uniform Rank'. It was supposedly a Militant faction of the organization...

The company that is marked on the blade as the maker/supplier of the sword is...

D. Klein & Bro.
Philadelphia, PA

The company existed from 1854 thru 1927.
I'm not sure if there is any way to narrow down it's vintage beyond that ๐Ÿค”

But, it does mean that at minimum it's at least 95 years old ๐Ÿ‘

I read somewhere the organization started in 1865 so maybe from there onwards?
