Can you help me dye a JRE sheath?

So I have this JRE bushcraft sheath that is just the natural leather color. I really do not care for it much and attempted to use shoe polish which of course, did not work. I am certain that I need to strip any finish off of it with alcohol, etc. But what can I do to change the color? Would I have to order some leather dye? I don't believe there are any leather shops nearby.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

wood stain will dye leather just fine if you can find it in a color you like at a hardware store or lumberyard. (4 oz can should only be a couple of bucks)
hobby stores sell leather dye too.
last but not least - once you have the sealer coat removed from the leather, RIT dye will also work -- but you need to seal the leather good afterwards, because the water based RIT will bleed. (sno-seal works good for a top coat if you have any handy)
