My dad passed away last year and I inherited a vast knife collection. I have been on here since September lurking and talking with some members. He has a lot of items where he has only one of them. He happens to have one Ontario knife. Can you help me identify model, year, and the sheath as well as value? Thank you in advance for your help. I want to honor my dad and do right by his collection. 364870A3-F913-4C58-9D2F-7306B2E731FE.jpegD709A9C7-6FA4-4901-96EE-5712A9CCEC2D.jpeg266A6873-EA16-4155-9A7F-50990E8EB1EA.jpeg

It is an Old Hickory knife, made by Ontario Knives. This is part of their kitchen knife lineup. Nice knives/inexpensive. Your looks to have been rehandled.

That is their butcher knife, to be more specific. Year identification will be rough, value will be low. A new old hickory butcher knife is pretty affordable and the re-handle and sheath won't add a ton of value likely. I wouldn't expect it to be something that is collectable but could make a nice user if you find a buyer.

sharpetoys,

Most of the posts are correct. I'll add that the Old Hickory knife is a 7-7 Butcher knife. The handle has indeed been modified and the sheath is an addition.
The year? Your guess is as good as anyone's. Old Hickory knives have been around for approx. 90 yrs. Not much value other than a family heirloom. (although that can be priceless)
I think Girlymann is correct. Many of the Old Hickory knives end up being used by Rendezvous re-enactors.
Hope this helps.

I bought 4 of those (clamshell packs) when I saw the price dip to around $7 each on promo, they are usually about $10.95-14.95 if I’m not mistaken. IMO one of the best deals in cutlery thanks to Ontario’s efficiency, but adding handles assuming 30-50% recoup of cost would add probably $10, if the sheath is thick leather another $10-15. Much more valuable as a user than it would be worth to sell! Unless I’ve missed something really unique, like gold pins!
