Can you just sharpen the tip?

I have a couple knives that took a hit on the tip and got
a little blunted. Also I have some knifes where the last
1/3rd of an inch or so is a little more dull than the rest of
the knife.

To sharpen this can I just sharpen the tip of the blade or
do I have to sharpen the whole edge in its entirety?
 
Sure, you can just sharpen the tip. Most of my knives tend to get more blunt in certain areas of the edge, and then of course sometimes accidents happen. Just work the area that needs it, and maybe give a few passes on the rest of the edge while you're at it just for good measure. :)
 
Getting a tip pointy again can be a bit more difficult than just getting the edge of the tip sharp. In some cases, one may end up having to grind it back into shape at the back of the spine.
