Can you lay a knife flat in a parkerizing tank?

Or will it sit too flat on the bottom of the tank and not get enough exposure to the solution? I found what seems like a great, cheap tank for parkerizing (an 18/8 stainless steel pan for putting in steam tables at buffets, it's about 20"x6"x6" and costs $15 before shipping) but it's horizontal, not vertical and it seems hard to keep the knife standing upright on its spine.

More generally, what are people's parkerizing setups? I'm just getting started doing this for the first time.

I've never parkerized a knife. However when I've parkerized small gun parts I used a small basket in a similar tank and moved the parts around to make sure everything was evenly coated. I'm assuming you can move your knife around to do the same. However when I parkerized larger parts, such as gun barrels, I used a piece of schedule 40 pipe vertically.

Is that schedule 40 stainless? Or do you just let the solution parkerize the inside of the pipe and not worry about it?

In that case I've got a piece of square tubing with a flat base welded onto it that'll do just fine and I won't worry about finding a stainless tank. Thanks!
