Can you loosen a stiff linerlock?

Hello All-

I posted this in the Buck sub-forums, but thought I'd ask it in General, too, since it might be germane to other brands.

I got an Alpha Dorado the other day. It's a small bladed folder with 154CM steel. It's a linerlock. The problem is that the liner is so stinking stiff that I can't move it easily. I literally have to reposition the knife for a firm two-handed grip in order to get the leverage to push the liner over. Really.

Is there a way to loosen up a liner? Will it loosen with age? OR am I going to have to look on the bright side that I now have a knife with a really strong lock. :(

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

It's probably not that it's an incredibly stiff spring, but rather that the face of the lock and the face of the tang have a lot of friction with eachother. After some use and carry they'll tend to smooth out a little and become less grabby.

Nope, it's stiff. For example, my Commander is grabby like you say, but the liner is very easy to move. A great combination, but this one is just stiff.

Now, let me add that I grew up on slippies and a few lockbacks. My first that wasn't was a framelock by Gerber, then the linerlock Commander. So, I don't have a lot of knives to compare it to, but this seems overly stiff. It actually "hurts" to use it.

Is it just stiff or is it sticking on the lock surface of the blade ? if it is sticking , try using pencil lead on the lock area of the blade ( just take a sharp pencil and color the lock area with the pencil ) , should make it smoother to release if it is indeed sticking.
Works most of the times for me.

No, it isn't sticking. It is stiff. It slides readily off the blade, but it is stiff as a board.
