In another thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=834703 there was discussion of using pattern maker's/cabinet maker's rasps for shaping handles, and that they are available at woodworking web sites. The Woodcraft site listed in the Knifemakers Suppliers List has them. The rasps I currently have tend to be rather coarse, bought at the local hardware store, and I think a half-round fine cut rasp would be quite useful. I'm gonna have to save my nickles and dimes, and dollars and invest in one of these.

I came across one site showing how they hand-cut their rasps. Hmmmmmm... This got me to wondering if any of the talented and clever people here have made their own rasps. If so how does one do it?

Are they case hardened or hardened all the way though (brittle??)?
