I ask b/c these tigerhides are GORGEOUS when oiled but hten go back to normal odd-colored canvas micarta.

Maybe crocus cloth or something? Or am I just going to uncover MORE canvas and make it a mess?

I only ask b/c the snakeskin scales have a sheen to them. I'm sure they aren't canvas, but I thought I might be able to smooth out the canvas.

Thanks in advance for any tips and/or advice.

I think it's possible to polish canvas micarta, but I could be wrong:confused:

Yes. This Krein TK-9 has polished green canvas handles:

Yeah, that was my fear. And I had thought of sealing it too. Not sure what to use. MAybe some Neat-Lac I've got for leatherwork. I hate mucking with a production-blade tho. Even though I'm sure a shot of Gunscrubber would take it off if it didn't look right.

Hmmmmm. How brave do I think I am???

Just get some nose grease on your thumb and rub it in.
The threads kinda disappears then you can polish with a cloth.:)
Too much nose grease and the handle gets kinda slippery tho':(
washes off with soap and water.
Hey, it's a cheap trick but works, kinda:o

Super glue will work well to finish this micarta. When you sand (use sandpaper in decreasing grits.... stopping at 1000 will make it look great), wet sand with soapy water (just a little dishwasher detergent is all you need), and only go in one direction. A knifemaker friend showed me this trick. If it starts to look rough, you're probably jumping between grits too quickly.

If you sand it out to about 600-800 grit I think you will have the polished surface you are looking for.

Then spray it down with WD40.....TaaDaa!!

If you have access to a buffer and a clean cotton wheel and white buffing compound you can REALLY buff it up after taking it to 600-800 grit!!

I might try clear-coating it. I've got some gel-satin finish. I figure if it looks bad, I think some Gunscrubber will take it off. Upon further viewing, I think it would be hard to polish in and around the grippies on the scales on the Game Warden. Perhaps on a smoother scale it would work.

Now I just gotta let the mineral oil dissipate and for me to screw up my courage. ;)

you can always put a superglue finish on "top". Makes for a nice polish. But personally, I'd fine-sand then buff it. CAN be done.

Nice pic!!!
