Can you put a normal bevel on an Emerson or is do you lose to much steel?

Just wondering if it is a bad idea to put a normal bevel on an Emerson, specifically the Specwar? Like do you lose too much steel or is the current bevel just not conducive is a standard grind? I really want to try the knife but I don't care for Emerson's grinds. I know changing it voids the warranty and I'll accept that.

I've reprofiled couple of Emersons to have a bevel on the non-logo side, but they were V-grinds (Journeyman and 7V). Do you mean to grind in a primary bevel and turn it into a V-grind? or just add a secondary to give it a V-edge?

Yeah I want to reprofile the non-logo side, the Specwar has the same grind as the Journeyman.

So it works okay to just add the bevel to the non-logo side? Also if you know a good place to send it to have it done that would be really helpful as well.

Yea, I just did it using my Wicked Edge and paper wheel strop.

I'll take pics of my Journeyman when I get home, but here's a pic of the non-logo side of my 7V at around 28% inclusive (the lowest I can go on my WE):

Too much money for what you are getting in my opinion.

Not in my opinion. The handle is actual carbon fiber, then dual ti liners. The steel is just fine. Made in the USA, and emerson wave, good value in my opinion. To the main question, yes you can make the edge bevel a V grind but it should be done by someone who really knows what they are doing, or it will look terrible and it possible to remove too much steel if not done right.

The gooey man did a great job by the way:cool:

I just spent about half an hour putting a nice Lansky edge on my CQC-13.
I made the secondary bevel on the left side just a little shallower than factory, and put about a 15 degree micro on the "unsharpened" right side, mostly to remove the burr.
That's my new preferred method, because after a quick strop this thing is SHARP!

A previous owner put a V edge on my CQC 10. Looks fine and works well enough. I wouldn't try it myself though.

Ive heard of people doing up an edge on the opposite side of the V-ground bevel emersons, the Chisel ground bevel ones are more rare to see like this from my experience.

As has been shown by others, it can be done. Your new "conventional" V edge will be less sharp, more difficult to maintain and somewhat more durable (since it's more obtuse).
