Can you really say 'Never?'

While scanning the Sales Exchange I saw a Killer Bee and a serialized Rat Trap for sale. Among others those are on my 'Never Sell' list. The Rat Trap for the sweet cutting package it is and for the limited number made and the Killer Bee because I've never held a more perfect knife for the purpose designed. I got my Killer Bee slightly used so I haven't worried about using and carrying it when I like. It truly speaks to me. I picked up a used Rat Trap shortly after getting #75 to put away and the user often bumps my Spyderco Military out of line for a trip outside. Those guys and a few more just will never leave side. Have you ever felt like that when you see a certain blade up on the block?

The last one I felt that way about ended up going to the best guy to own it. My one of a kind ST Ripper. Unfortunately, medical bills are more pressing than my will to keep a blade.
No Regrets, right?;)

I have only five knives on my "never sell" list. Only one is a Busse.

The original Custom Shop Active Duty that Jerry and Jennifer sent to me to replace the one I gave to Kim as she lay in a vegetative state will never be sold. It is frequently used, however.

The three cheap Frosts that Kim bought for my birthday at Blade '07 will never be sold, either (not that anyone would buy them.) In this case, it was truly the thought that counted.

The last one is my dad's old Case Sod-buster which he was carrying when he died at age 85.

All that being said, I have sold only one Busse and traded two for other Busses since 1994 when I began buying them.

i have rules on certain blades. not necessarily "never sell" - but definitely "never profit from". my old modded NICK, my HI 30" ang khola, my old aria guitar were/are all on that list. the modded nick was sold for 50$, and I gave the aria away. If I ever lose the 30" ang khola, it will have to be as a gift, or with the only payment going towards shipping.

The only Busse I truly regret selling was a Killer B I sold for $165 back in 2003. Believe it or not, it sat on the exchange for a few days and I was happy to get a buyer.

In a pinch, if I and my family needed the money badly enough, I'd sell 'em all, with the exception of a couple that were passed down through family. The Honk Falls below was my grandfather's, and my father traded him out of it. Now it's mine. Come to find out, it likely has a value in the hundreds, as these old Honk Falls knives, all made in the 1920s, are pretty collectible. But it's not going anywhere.

None of my Busses have that emotional connection. Yet. One thing I've found is that, with time, patience, and money, you can acquire just about any Busse model. The likelihood of my finding the Honk Falls again, should I sell, is so much slimmer.

The only blades I own that I can label as "never" to sell would be my 69er BMeLE and medium BARF.

It is all circumstancial,

While I do have knives that I would like to hang onto, and have far been able to for the last 6 to 9 years there is always the potential to sell.

When my kids read this, they may well be at odds with the concept(they seem to have plans for My knives)

I like to give away my Busse knives, I like to hang on to a choice few dozen the rest will eventually go as gifts.

If I decide I need an addition to the house, or maybe a tractor they will hit the block pretty quick.

I figure....even though I say it and others say it if it REALLY came down to it :p....we'd sell all our knives if it was something involving financial ruin or our families where we expended all of our other resources. That said....I DO have a shortlist of those knives that would be the LAST of all my posessions to go ;) they're all SHBM's with the exception of my HOGASH which would be the very last to go in such an emergency since they were made for us HOGS individually and I consider it to be a gift because of the subsidized price.

You have my email, right Andre? :D

Last-to-go knives would probably be:

SHBM
FBM SE 07
ABA LE
AD LE

UJ, you're right. As modern suburbia continues to encroach on previously untainted backwoods settings, the mullet is slowly facing extinction.

You should act now. Got any DABAs?

What does DABA stand for? Also is that a muddy finish, tan, or sage? Damn I am starting to sound like a newb. :D

he, he ...

fresh faced DABA before the beating.. makes a nice pair with my Desert SJ
