Can you recommend a pen for me? ...

I use several fountain pens and cheap disposable rollerball/gel pens. I think I'd like to find decent rollerball or ballpoint pen that is reliable and maybe a little gimmicky. ;-)

Looking in the $20 to $50 range. Considering a Lamy Pico & Fisher Bullet Space pen.

What else should I check out?

Thanks!!

Chris

Retro 1951 Tornado.
It uses BOTH Schmidt-type roller ball refills AND Parker-type ball point refills.
Comfy, nice weight, comes in lots of colors and very very reliable.

Caran d'Ache metal ballpoints. Write well, lots of ink and Swiss made...good stuff!

I am quite fond of both my Fisher bullet in chrome and my Fisher AG-7 in chrome.

The Bullet rides in the fold of my wallet so it is always with me. I had to superglue the pocket clip on as they tend to slide off and cut a little slit in my wallet to insert the pen body into.

Works like a champ. An easy to cary EDC item that I have had to use on a ton of occasions.

is as gimmicky as they get--but I have one all the same. It attaches to your key ring, and can morph from a quick pen to a regular sized one in less than a minute.

Downside is the cartridge is miniscule so don't expect to write a long exposition with one. Still, it's great to have as a back up to a normal pen.

Zebra 701-All metal, refillable clicky, writes great and will only set you back $6.

I second the Zebra 701. I keep buying them because all my family and friends keep asking for one after they use it once :)

The Fisher space pens qualify as gimmicky in my book and do serve a purpose but, they are not my choice for a normal everyday use pen.

My favorites in the mid-range price point are the old Rotring 600's made in West Germany out of brass. The new ones are not as nice as the old ones which seem to be inferior due to materials and subtle construction changes.

Sensa pens are good for those of us who have hand issues from using a computer too much.

If you want good quality, buy the pen of your choice and install premium refill in it. Go to a good stationary store (not a mass market place) and talk to someone who really knows there stuff and buy the refill cartridge that matches what you want it to do.

I've been happy with this one for a few years now. Sturdy, good weight, the G2 ink refills write very smoothly and are cheap and easy to find.

The pen was around $12.

Ive used alot of the pens reccomended here, the g2 limited, the zebra f-701, and the fisher bullet pen. The best one, IMO is the bullet pen. Very nice writing, and indestructable. It is in a whole different world of writing quality compared to the g2, or even the f 701. Try one, you wont regret it.

Don't buy the Lamy Pico, the paint will chip right of it, happened to mine.
I do love my Lamy Spirit, people always ask what pen it is.

A Cross Townsend is a nice pen - I have a few of them and use them all the time.

Zebra 701 is a very cool, and not very expensive stainless steel pen. The one bummer is that the clicker and tail cap has plastic...but this can be replaced with the all-steel bits from a Zebra 402. Nice and hefty, but not heavy like those "tactical" pens.

For something more "gimicky", Zebra makes a few different telescoping pens. Space Pen length, but all you do is pull the front out, the tip extends itself, and your pen is full length. But can also be used in its short length. I bought a pair for under $10 (forgot the actual amount).

There's a bunch of different Space Pens available, not just the original "Bullet", and they're all gimicky to some degree.

I think the F-402 is a better pen than the 701, however, a .5mm G2 is a pretty hard pen to beat. It's not tactical or all metal but it's a incredibly reliable and comfortable pen.

I've tried a lot of pens but always go back to the G2.

Your bullet pen is a lot better than mine. I'm not doubting you, or your opinion, just noting that has not been my experience with any of the dozen Fisher refills I've tried.
